But I read on the internets that 5.56 was only good for poodles

Lyle looks at a 5.56 wound. If you click his link, it’s pretty gory. You’ve been warned.

Ha! You think THAT’S Bad, why, you should see what my (Fill in the Blank) Revolver/Pistol/Rifle/Shotgun Ammo will do!

That should make the Fan Boys Happy. ; )

  2. Kevin Highland Says:

That’s some graphic depiction!!! Makes ya want to stay on the correct side of the firearm.

Its so so.. Close range and it shattered the bone. There would have been far less damage if the bone had not shattered… It goes to show distance and shot placement effect the outcome. It also shows a .223 at certain distances and locations is effective. Reality is a little bit different as our boys in the sand box have found out… If the .223 does not hit a bone or hits a heavy bone after passing through the body like a vertebrae it is ineffective without multiple hits… two 3 round burst is not uncommon to stop a fighter in sand hell… The miami fbi shootout has taught us about the effectiveness of the .223 against unarmored targets…

  4. Cargosquid Says:

Soooo…has anyone actually tried it out on a poodle to see if its effective? I’m sure that some SWAT somewhere has shot a poodle…..

    Eww.

That’s the thing, they might be little this way, but they’er long that way. When they tip, they rip. Ask a Swede about a 6.5.

  7. Tarrou Says:

John Smith, who have you been talking to? I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess a blog post by a POG or some third-hand BS.

1: No one uses the 3-rd burst function. Ever.
2: I was skeptical of the 5.56 when I went in. I’ve done my tours and I’m no longer worried. That little unstable round yaws like crazy and tumbles when it hits anything. I’ve never heard a single complaint on “stopping power” from an actual line soldier. M-4 wounds are nasty things.

  8. Tennessee Budd Says:

Interesting & instructive. Didn’t gross me out, though–I saw my own leg in ’08, & it was nearly as bad.
I used to belittle the poodle-shooter round, years ago, but I’ve since learned to respect it.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
