In other news, they were still using them.

You wouldn’t want to shoot a polar bear with a C7.

  2. Nylarthotep Says:

Keep your fingers crossed and maybe we’ll see the retired guns imported for sale here. I already have a #4, but it would be nice to get another.

  3. Texas Jack Says:

My first large-bore rifle was an Enfield, purchased mail order in 1956. I still have it and still shoot it every now and then just to remember how.

  4. Firehand Says:

Reliable, reasonably accurate, works under lousy conditions… apparently kept doing the job.

Wonder what ammo they were issued, all ball or some soft-points for game?

  5. HL Says:

I saw this years ago…still makes me giggle.

I laughed at the idea of bolt guns, until I bought a No. 4 MkI. Love that gun, as much as you can love an inanimate object. It probably would be my zombie apocalypse gun.

  7. TerryP Says:

They were still using them because they still work and work well. I know we become jaded playing with “modern” firearms, but most guns produced in the last 120 years that were effect then are still effect now. My favorite line to younger shooters at the range who question my model 10 Smith is:
    “Newsflash – revolvers still work.”

  8. Standard Mischief Says:

It gets awfully cold up there in the Northwest Territories, and I have it on good authority that once you get out of the woods and have 500 yards of visibility at -20 degC you really, really want to have a bolt-action rifle chambered in a full power cartridge.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
