Man corners female hotel worker with a knife to her throat. He started to tie her up, for a rape. At which point, she drew her gun and shot him. He died.
Also, the uses the term fought back. We don’t realize that she pulled a heater and introduced his insides to the outside until paragraph four.
And with one shot from a .22, at that! Totally ineffective for self defense purposes, obviously.
Score one for the good guys…
Let Jay know he needs to up the DGC.
I think the headline should read “Breakfast Buffet delayed at local hotel”.
I cannot believe the reporter left out essential details. Did the shooter get a reward or commendation from local government? Was she asked to speak at local women’s groups on the details of CQB? Did the weapons manufacturer send her any gifts? Any product endorsements? Days Inn looking to promote her? Inquiring minds want to know?
Mr. Evilwrench: heh. the lowly .22 LR kills more people than any other round in this country.
It just takes time to bleed out, is all.
Emptying a .22 into an attacker’s body will give you the winning edge in a fight. Or at least make it easy to run like hell. Sucking chest wounds are Nature’s way of saying “slow down”.
Yeah, but every time the subject comes up, you get people going round and round over whether the .380 or even the 9×19 is good enough for self defense.
Ice picks kill a lot of people too but I don’t carry one.

My first thought when reading this, too. Most shooters (me included) are a lot more accurate with a .22 than a .45 or a 9mm. I love my bigger guns, but am giving serious thought to Ket Tec’s 30 rounder as a carry gun. Five fast on target .22s probably beat a couple of less accurate 9mm most days.
I know what “point blank range” is. Not many do. Jack.
I’m surprised the police didn’t trot out the usual “if you just give them what they want” insanity. Of course it doesn’t go down too well when rape is involved.
But it doesn’t usually stop someone from recommending cooperation as a general rule.
The main reason most folks shun .22 for self defense is the inherent inferiority of it’s ballistics, but a close second is the relative unreliability of rimfire cartridges vs. Centerfire cartridges.
Good shoot, and kudos to the employer for recognizing her right to self defense!
Trent,
that’s why JMB designed the .25acp, to get reliable ignition and feeding in the same power envelope. Stop looking at rifle barrel specs for the .22LR, and compare them equally.
French IMF diplomats hardest hit. Or would be, anyway.
“The victim was about 100 pounds lighter than Carson and stood at least a foot shorter than him, investigators said.”
I wonder if they factored in the weight of the 22lr, because it looks to me like that gun made the fight just about even.
