I have Boothroy’d book, The Handgun – it begins at the beginning (in Europe) and covers Matchlocks for many-many pages before even getting to percussion handguns…

I carry the Walther PPK in .380 to this day because of James Bond!

When I was a little kid, in the 80’s, I loved James Bond. I didn’t even really understand the whole US/UK thing, but I knew Commies were the badguys and James Bond was the coolest spy in the world. When I got old enough to understand the different types of guns (I grew up in a house where “war toys” were verboten, so I had to learn everything through the parents friends) I found out that a PPK was what James Bond carried, and that was the gun I wanted from ages of about 12 to 16, when I found out it wasn’t really all that great and would bite your hand. My first handgun was a Makarov, and now I own a P232 as well. After years of flirting with and owning various full sized pistols, I’ve come full circle to appreciate the sleek compactness and ease of carry of pistols which follow in the PPK’s footsteps, although I still carry a compact .45 when weather permits!

Wow. “excuse me chaps, off to my study for a spot of shooting”

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
