I read this a number of years ago and haven’t thought much of it since. But here’s a case of a man using his lawful NFA machine gun in self-defense.

Then there was the one of the gun store owner that got his place of business broken into one night and used a full auto to protect the place. Can’t remember right off where the story is at though I think it’s in Ayoob’s achives.

The gun store was Sunbelt Arms in Decatur, GA. One night in November 1982 four men in a van drove through the front window of Sunbelt Arms with the intention of robbing the place. Several similar robberies of gun stores in the Atlanta area had occurred earlier that year so the owner of Sunbelt had been sleeping in the back of the store. When the four guys got out of the van he opened fire with an M16, killing 2 and wounding 2. One of the wounded later died at the hospital. HCL, I believe Robert may be citing the Harry Beckwith matter as well. (Gun store owner in Florida with S&W M76).

And, as a note, He didn’t just protect his place of business once with a full auto weapon, he did it TWICE!

I’d give the guy in the Decatur incident a score of 3/1 instead of 2/2. One of the wounded died later, so that counts in my book.

Computer game designer Richard Garriott (creator of Ultima series of games) used an Uzi to hold at bay a deranged fan who broke into his house. He fired a warning shot(s).
