More privacy headaches for Facebook: gay users outed to advertisers

Just one example of why I dont have anything to do with sites like facebook and twitter.

  2. Laughingdog Says:

Are you really in the closet in the first place if you have your sexual preference on your Facebook profile? Even if you keep your profile hidden from non-friends, you clearly aren’t exactly keeping it a secret at that point.

  3. Sigivald Says:

As Laughingdog said. All that’s being “outed” is what the person already put in their profile.

The actual complaint in that stupid, stupid article was that “it wasn’t obvious to them that the ad was served to them because they’re gay” – and somehow that would lead to them accidentally revealing their SEKRIT GAINEZZ to the crafty advertiser.

Makes my brain hurt just parsing these complaints.

Side note – Microsoft made a Facebook client called “Fishbowl” (as a Silverlight demonstrator, I believe).

I put stuff I don’t care about the world knowing up on Facebook; and vai Facebook I’ve kept in touch with people I wouldn’t have been able to in an earlier time.

    It’s a tradeoff.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
