I’ve often used the argument with those mental midgets that “If George Bush was half the tyrannt that you made him out to be, the right to keep and bear arms should be the last thing you would ever want to see go away”.

I’m curious; the author describes Bill O’Reilly’s ravings as ‘bilious’ and Olbermann’s comments as special. Is that special, as in retarded?

It was a good article – but it suffered from some false base assumptions. Namely, that today’s “liberals” actually want to protect other rights. No, today’s progressive movement is all about forcing other people to be progressive, and not allowing any dissent. The left loves anti-first-amendment things like campus speech codes, “hate” speech laws, and censorship of non-progressivism in all forms, and actively wants the government to discriminate against some religions.
So I don’t expect it to change any minds there.

The author thinks he’s describing liberals, but he’s actually describing libertarians. As people here are pointing out, modern liberals don’t actually care about a great deal of the essential freedoms he describes (that’s not to say that conservatives do either, of course).

Pretty well written and argued.
Too bad I made the mistake of looking at the comments, to find something along the lines of “the majority of white ‘gun nuts’ are armed because they’re scared of black people!”.

obviously none of you understand what constitutes American “political” conservatism. Jesus Christ, grow the fuck up!
Social conservatives are just liberals with a different viewpoint on how they should be allowed to tell you how to live your life.
Fiscal conservative can and do fall into either camp.
This has been explained many times, by me, here, for just a few examples of your exposure to the true meaning of conservative in American parlance. And many other places by much more eminent personages than myself.
I fear you are all too Goddamned stupid to understand it, so I won’t repeat. However, I will admonish you to shut the fuck up, since you don’t have a Goddamned clue what you’re talking about.
I will say this, a true American political conservative does not believe in impinging on the free will of any other so long as that other harms no one. All those sonsofbitches who tell you they are conservatives, then try to control you are fucking liars. You’re all just too damn dumb to see it.
