In DC

Mass shooting. Police say it may have been an AK47. Well, it usually is, initially.

  1. BobG Says:

Any long gun that is fired twice without reloading is reported as an AK-47.

  2. JKB Says:

Well, they should be able to have this wrapped up by lunch, all guns in DC and nearby Maryland required to be registered and all.

  3. Pathfinder Says:

Any guesses as to whether these people in some way were associated with the unregistered pharmaceutical trade, or perhaps one of the many unregistered youth organizations?

    TOH – Tam.

“Police sources said an AK-47 assault rifle may have been used. A man who said he was in the area at the time recounted the sounds he heard as “pat, pat, pat, pat, pat,” followed by a loud boom.”

So it was a Pat Boone Special Issue AK-47?

    Maybe it was a SajAK.

  6. Mikee Says:

For three years in the late 1990’s I worked across the highway from the neighborhood described in the article. It was and is a ghetto of drugs and crime. From the Potomac River to the highway is filled with government installations, starting with the sewage treatment plant and continuing with govenment labs, DIA facilities, the AF base, and other interesting places. Across the highway some of the poor of DC live with corrupt government and violent criminals.

What would it take, in terms of poverty, for you to live within smelling distance of all the sewage from DC? Those people know.

  7. Spade Says:

    Mikee,

It’s still like that. I do find it fitting that the first thing you notice driving into DC (and the last thing on the way out) on I-295 is the smell of shit.

  8. Guav Says:

It was, I’m sure we’re all surprised to learn, a drug/gang-related drive by shooting. Also, shocked to learn:

Sources say one of suspects in custody is also wanted in connection with the murder of 20-year-old Jordan Howe, who was laid to rest Tuesday. At least some of the nine people reportedly had attended his funeral.

Sources also tell ABC 7 police attempted to get an arrest warrant for one of the men they’re questioning, who, sources say, is wanted in Howe’s death. But prosecutors wouldn’t sign for it.

  9. Truthsayer Says:

Obviously, they’re just not enforcing the existing laws hard enough… Must. Make. More. Illegal. -er

  10. dustydog Says:

Details are still coming in, but when patients are being taken to Prince George’s Hospital Center, you kinda expect 3/9 dead. The doctors and nurses are saints, but the level of corruption, waste, and mismanagement is incredible.

  11. countertop Says:

The adults charged were Nathaniel Simms, 26, and Orlando Carter, 20, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office said Wednesday. Carter, whose last known address was in the 2300 block of Irving Street SE, has several drug charges on his record dating back to 2008, according to court records.

    Color me surprised.

    Also in the same article . . . .

The burst of gunfire, apparently a drive-by shooting, led to a police chase in which four D.C. officers were slightly injured. Officials later said three people were arrested and a weapon was recovered, but no other details were immediately available.

Which, of course, undermines the likely false statement (still in the same article that

Police sources said an AK-47 assault rifle might have been used. A man who said he was in the area at the time recounted the sounds he heard as “tat, tat, tat, tat, tat, and then boom!”

Either details are available or not.

  12. Sigivald Says:

I’m wondering what the “boom” was.

  13. countertop Says:

probably the thumping bass in someones killer sound system.

  14. RML Says:

“I’m wondering what the “boom” was.”

The car blowing up after being shot, just like in the movies.

As I’ve said before, a journalist is only as good as his sources. If the cops say “AK” you report that and attribute it to law enforcement. If a witness tells you he heard something, you run with that as well, maybe with a second or third witness with the same or different information depending on time or space constraints. You could call Mark O’Keefe or Michael Bane at 3 a.m. for a quote and ask what weapons were at the scene, and although they are knowledgeable in the field, they would not know because they weren’t there.

  15. countertop Says:

Not sure what the boom is, but hearing it very well was an AK47 styled gun (whether automatic or semi auto I don’t know). There were also 9mm and .45 ACP shell casings there too though those guns weren’t recovered.

Oh yeah, and this seems to have stemmed from a fight over a missing “gold colored” (ie:not gold) bracelt. Someone else was killed over it last week and the Washington Post is now reporting that this was in retaliation for that killing.

So clearly its Concealed Permit Holders and otherwise law abiding gun owners who are at fault here.

  16. dave Says:

ARK-1547 heavy artillery assault rifle, available at every gas station in the South.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
