Thumbs Up

A look at thumbs forward grip of a revolver. Well, (graphic pic no clicky if squeamish) that guy who blew his thumb off with a 460 revolver might disagree.

Actually, I never considered myself squeamish, but that was really gross. I have been burned by the flash gap before, but that was pretty nasty. I suppose it is more to be expected on a firearm that required re-engineering to prevent flame cutting on the frame (as in, yeah it did that to your thumb, you’re lucky we stopped it from happening to the STEEL) and to prevent cartridge case thrust from BREAKING THE WHOLE MACHINE! I think we are past the point of valuable gains. That said, I still wouldn’t turn down a chance to shoot one. But if I meet something that requires that much power in the hand, I will use a .30-06. More power to the people that like them, though.

I was taught the revolver combat grip with the off-hand clamping the wrist of the shooting hand. It works well for me, & I see no reason to change. Combat is all about doing these things consistently, and getting good results from consistency.

BTW, I have an ancient police revolver training manual about 100 years old, and it shows combat using one hand only, with the other hand placed on the hip or even in a pants pocket.

It’s all about what you’re used to.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
