Homeland Security loses a lot of guns:
The nation’s Homeland Security officers lost nearly 200 guns in bowling alleys, public restrooms, unlocked cars and other unsecure areas, with some ending up in the hands of felons. The problem, outlined in a new federal report, has prompted disciplinary actions and extra training.
Most of the misplaced weapons — including handguns, shotguns and military rifles — were never found. “Most losses occurred because officers did not properly secure firearms,” says the Homeland Security inspector general report.

This is so disgusting its humorous. The Feds losing their weapons?
They treat us common folk like we can’t be trusted with them – I’ve never lost/forgotten a weapon.

I think a law banning private sales at gun shows or a law about being able to fix a bayonet at the end of a rifle will solve this problem.

I have a question that hope gets answered (via email since I’ll probably forget that I commented)
How is this good for us as gun owners? I mean, if the cops lose stuff in this amount, that means we lose stuff around that amount too or even more-so because we’re not “professionals”. So an anti-gun advocate can say that by letting the common man carry guns allows more guns to fall into the hands to criminals simply because everyone’s losing their guns and misplacing them. How can we satisfactory we rebut that conjecture?

didn’t say it was good for gun owners. but it does dispel the myth that somehow police are bestowed with magical powers mere mortals do not have with respect to being trusted with firearms.

At the rate these official guns are disappearing and with awareness of the level of integrity of the employees of the agencies hiring them, I would hazard a guess that most of these guns went missing at exactly the same time each of these employees found a bunch of “free” money.

hiroshi_tea, Im sure that us honest people dont lose firearms anywhere near as much as the so-called “professionals” do. Why? Because we, the private citizens, PAY for our firearms with our own $$$$. Our guns are a investment so we’re going to take care of them and not “misplace” them.
On the other hand, I have no doubt that the “lost” firearms we’re always hearing about the “professionals” losing are ISSUED to them and cost them nothing so they’re not as concerned or careful as us responsible citizens.
I fully agree with straightarrow. I’m willing to bet that at least half of these Fed’s/LEO’s “lost” or “missing” weaps were sold to the highest bidder.
