The liquor lobby says getting rid of their monopoly will cause people to lose their businesses, lower prices.

No monopoly can sustain itself in a free market unless it’s purely a merit based “monopoly”, i.e. they’re doing a better job than everyone else. No; a coercive monopoly (the bad kind) always has government involvement.

They can always go to work for a competitor that’s selling at a reasonable price and therefore succeeding.

Interesting, this has come up in my state of CT recently as well. The state is interested in the additional taxes that might be collected by allowing sales on Sundays & wine in grocery stores.
