Pistol Permits in NYC

Issued to Bernie Madoff’s son, despite allegations he allegedly punched out a former employee. Even has a list of other famous people with permits.

Update: A fail to mention error (see #21). Seems my absence of condemnation of the NY press publishing a list indicates that I’m OK with it. I’m not, really. Privacy is privacy. But I think GunGeek made a good point a bit back:

If you live in a “may issue” state, there MUST be some way for those have been denied a permit to see who did get approved. Without at least that minimum level of accountability, the potential for abuse is just too great.

And NYC is may-issue for mere ownership.

So, that one’s a thinker.

If it’s not okay to publish a list of Indiana carry permits, why is it cool to publish a list of those in NYC?

  2. TomcatsHanger Says:

I’m with Tam, I don’t get why this is an OK list.

I didn’t say it was. But I think GunGeek made a good point a bit back:

    That’s a valid point.

And I wasn’t necessarily meaning to imply that your were “okay with it” so much as that it was one of those things I almost didn’t think about, either.

I mean, I’d read the whole article and clicked the back button before I thought “Hey, wait…

  5. Rob K Says:

They also didn’t publish a full searchable database of names and addresses, just a short list to confirm what everyone already knew — only the rich and connected get a permit in NYC.

  6. Dan Says:

The entire state needs a license for mere-ownership of handguns.

  7. chris Says:

Yeah, big surprise that people like Madoff’s son and Don Imus, as well as other celebs and investment bankers, get permits, but a single mother in Queens living in a project can’t get one.

  8. straightarrow Says:

There’s a reason for that Chris. She would simply be the fuckee and deemed unworthy of protection, while the fuckors definitely need protection from fuckees who become irate.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
