Since kids, my movie watching has been slacking. Recently got at Netflix account. Love it. Some brief movie reviews:
Bubba Ho-Tep: LOL WUT. Elvis and JFK vs a mummy.
Hellboy: Good guy demon kicks unearthly booty.
Watchmen: MTV is on the air, Nixon is president, 99 Luftballons, a sociopath superhero, Vietnam surrenders, and it’s 1985
Shooter: Sans Funky Bunch, Marky Mark gets his gun porn on.

If you like documentaries, their “On-Demand” documentary selection is excellent. Check out “Into Great Silence” about the Grand Chartreuse monastery in France. Wow.

Jim, rorschach is pretty much a sociopath whose pathology seems warped in that instead of grandiose ideas of self he has grandiose ideas regarding justice and moral certainty. Pretty brilliant idea for a character really.

Shooter – yeah, nothing like letting a convicted felon make a ton of money by handling firearms he is forbidden by Federal law to handle, let alone use, even in a movie.

Uh, Rorschach exhibits almost none of the signs of anti-social personality disorder. He’s crazy, but sociopath isn’t the name of his craziness. His crime fighting activities might approach the level of a mania, but sociopathy, no.
Technically, he comes close to a lot of the indicators, but not in the right way. For example, he does exhibit frequent violent and illegal behavior, but the violence and illegality are the result of the fact that he’s an outlawed vigilante, not the result of poor impulse control or uncontrolled aggressiveness.
The fact that Rorschach carefully plans out his vigilante related actions and can easily refrain from violence and illegality when he isn’t wearing his costume or dealing with criminals suggests that he is not actually a sociopath, though he clearly cultivates an appearance of craziness in the books and the movie.

I have no idea whether he meets the definition of sociopath, but Rorschach’s craziness isn’t cultivated. He’s freakin’ nuts. He lives in filth and wears filth-encrusted clothes. The artwork in the book is pretty graphic on that point.

#11 Marky Mark got hopped up on goofballs, beat up an old man (permanently blinding him in one eye) and was convicted of a felony and sentenced to 2 years. But because MA apparently doesn’t think beating and blinding random old folk is worthy of much punishment he only served 45 days (he was 15 at the time of the attack and wiki says his first record was when he was 20 so he didn’t get out due to being famous). Since a felony is considered imprisonment more than one year and he served less then MA doesn’t really consider him a felon. Since MA doesn’t consider him a felon then the Feds don’t. Caveat emptor, I read that explanation on the internet and don’t remember where so take it for what you will.

Netflix is a great bargain, especially in our house where all we watch is movies — no cable or broadcast TV at all. And I was so glad not to have to set foot in another Blockbuster again. It’s on-demand feature is ok, but for the kind of movies I like I find a better selection on YouTube although not as good video quality.

I just signed up for Netflix. In fact, my free trial ends today. The idea was to also get to see some movies since the kids monopolize the TV. So far, the only Netflix movies we have received were cartoons….

Your experience might not be as good as ours delivery-wise because we are right next to the distribution center, Chicago’s west suburbs, and if I make the 9:00 a.m. mail pickup they have my old movie by their 2:00 p.m. delivery and I have my new movie my the second day after. Your turn-around time might be as long as five days so it might be worth checking out their on-demand option.

milquetoast: “Since a felony is considered imprisonment more than one year and he served less then MA doesn’t really consider him a felon.”
My understanding is that a person becomes a “prohibited person” upon conviction of a crime for which a _possible_ sentence exceeds 1 year. The actual sentence makes not one bit of difference.
Whether a state considers someone to be a “felon” also does not enter into the determination. Only the _possible_ sentence matters; the label assigned to the crime does not matter.

i use netflix on my xbox 360… fantastic bargain compared to paying for the premium channels on cable. Plus, I can fire it up anywhere i have an internet connection that’s fast enough to stream over 🙂

i think that the sociopaths in the movie were Dr Manhattan and Ozymandius. Dr Manhattan was clearly unable to emotionally connect with other humans, but that could be excused because he was not really human anymore. Ozymandius was a sociopath. he was the one who believed that it was ok to reduce other people to objects if that would cause a good (in his mind) outcome. it’s pretty typical of leftish thinking. Ozymandius just took it a little farther.

If you enjoyed SHOOTER, do yourself a favor and read the book it was based on — POINT OF IMPACT by Stephen Hunter. Then you’ll realize what a travesty that movie was. Great source material, turned into Hollywood junk. As usual.
