Long Range Handgun

Ringing a bell at 240 yards with a pistol:

Not to mention what he can do with his Glock 30.

Is he shooting right handed but left eyed? That’s quite a feat with pistol sights. Nice shooting.

  2. Mikee Says:

At the very beginning he says, “Hi. Hickock here.” With a name like that of course he can shoot well.

Elmer Keith was killing elk, and eagles, that way 60 years ago. Decent sights, solid stance ….

The basic, in my humble opinion, is that your body is the real sight. If you stand/sit/lie right and hold the firearm right, it will do what you want it to do.

  5. Bruce Says:

That’s not so hard to do.

Provided your gong is 50-ft in diameter.

nk is spot-on. … but it also takes a lot of practice and a bit of luck. Too many people try to fuss shots instead of just saying “yep, this is right” and lettin’ fly.

I rolled a moving red fox at 260yd with a GI 1911 shooting 230gr ball… Unfortunately, the roll was him reacting to the flying dirt eight inches in front of his nose. Yes, it was witnessed. Could I do it again? Sure, with about six or seven more magazines of ammo. πŸ™‚

From what I recall, the sound of the gong makes it about a 12″ circular plate (a bigger one would have a deeper ring, a rectangular one would clang rather than ring). Not bad shooting at all, offhand…

What fun. I remember popping a man-sized silhouette gong at 400 yards with a .45-70 1885 High Wall, and the pleasure of the shooting was just magnificent.

    Wow1 That rang my bell!

If you can see where they hit, you adjust slightly and walk them in. (Please don’t ask me to show you, BTW. πŸ˜‰ Neither my eyesight nor my coordination are up to the task, anymore, sad to say.)

“Is he shooting right handed but left eyed?”

That’s how I pistol shoot. I’m right handed and left eye dominate. I shoot rifles right eyed because I’m just too old and stubborn to change 40 years of comfortable habit. Besides I’m pretty happy with how well I shoot that way. However, I shot pistol right handed and eyed for years and sucked at it. When I finally decided to force myself to change a few years ago, my marksmanship improved very quickly.

We fought with the daughter’s kindergarten teacher over holding the pencil right hand or left hand. She is right-handed after all but not because anybody forced it on her.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
