Guns on Campus

Like you and me, only better: the poll (at the bottom right):

ARE YOU IN FAVOR OF FACULTY, MILITARY, EX-MILITARY, AND CURRENT AND RETIRED LAW OFFICERS APPROVED TO CARRY CONCEALED GUNS ON STATE COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY CAMPUSES

If you can lawfully carry a firearm, I don’t see why being on campus matters. Or your military status.

Matthew Hurt has more on the campus carry bill proposed by Campfield.

As I’ve posted before, I now work on a campus, just a few feet from the bus stop. I can’t carry here.
Other buildings have electronic locks – we have an open door. It sucks.

I agree, why should LEO or military be more responsible than CCW permit holders?

“I agree, why should LEO or military be more responsible than CCW permit holders?”

More importantly, why should ex-LEO and ex-military have them. In many departments, Cops are cops whether they’re on duty or not. Ditto the military. You can argue that they shouldn’t be, but the truth is that they are or are expected to be.

But ex-cops and ex-soldiers are just normal citizens like you and me. While they may deserve some retirement benefits, being treated as a special protected class under the law ought not be one of them.

An incremental approach might be better than zero progress. Once military veterans are allowed to carry, the next question for the legislature could be, “Why is a former Navy engine technician, who never carried an individual firearm in his entire active duty career, allowed to carry a concealed handgun on campus at age 21, while an experienced firearms enthusiast aged 45, who participates in regular handgun competitions, cannot?”

Let the illogic of their gun bans become public, let their lack of respect for civil rights become the dominant part of the argument.

Why should the right to self defense depend on a piece of paper issued by a group that always arrives late to the scene of a crime?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
