Calls for ban on weapons that look like assault weapons

Reports the WSJ. Also, shooter in AL had a concealed carry permit. He was also an aspiring police officer.

And once again, a “news” story uses the bullshit term “unlicensed dealer” to describe somebody conducting a private transaction at a gun show.

    When will they ever learn??

  2. SayUncle Says:

Learning is not part of it. Parrots repeat.

  3. Linoge Says:

Crud. Just another nutcase with a permit that the hoplophobes will use as leverage against all of the law-abiding handgun carry permit holders out there.

Funny how murderers without permits are not used as indictments against everyone else without permits…

  4. MadRocketScientist Says:

Where did it say he was an aspiring police officer?

  5. SayUncle Says:

It didn’t. That was from a previous post/article.

  6. Tam Says:

He washed out of both Po-po school and Parris Island…

“Unlicensed dealers, such as those at gun shows, may sell semiautomatic assault rifles to anyone of any age without conducting a background check.” I would think that to be a dealer one MUST have a license. I subscribe to the paper version of WSJ and normally enjoy reading it. However, if they make mistakes on subjects that I’m familiar with how many mistakes do they make on subjects that I’m not. Damn it makes me mad. I’m going off and take a sip or 2 of Dickel.

  8. Hypnagogue Says:

“Whether the expired federal law would have banned the particular semiautomatic assault rifles that Mr. McLendon is alleged to have used is unclear.”

Do they have no researchers on staff at the WSJ? Here’s some help for those genius-types in New York: it is quite obvious that these “assault rifles” were NOT banned by the assault weapon ban (assuming a fixed stock on the AR). They are also not assault rifles.

Wikipedia knows the facts, WSJ doesn’t. Which is more legitimate?

Alchy, I too am shocked at the Journal’s descent. It started before the Murdoch takeover, but hasn’t slowed any. You really can judge a paper by its proofreading standards: for 30 years that I know of personally, WSJ had the cleanest writing and best grammar of any major news organ, and I include NYT and the Times. Now, they print misspelled words every day. You can only blame computers for so long. Most of them still do not have LogicChek or EthicsChek installed.

  10. Les Jones Says:

Friends and family described the Alabama shooter as a quiet person whom they never imagined would go on a shooting spree. Clearly the government should lock up all of the quiet people who don’t seem like they’d go on shooting sprees.

  11. Adam Says:

    @Les – don’t give them any ideas..

  12. Divemedic Says:

1 Carolina McCarthy is pushing for a new AWB because her husband was killed by Colin Ferguson on the Long Island Railroad. With a pistol. Does anyone think it will stop with an AWB?

2 In the Alabama shooting, a man went crazy and killed 10 people. As we are well aware, anecdote=evidence.

  13. CTD Says:

assault weapons, or guns that can fire rounds more quickly than standard weapons.

    WTF?

My low-rent Yugo SKS can fire rounds “more quickly” than a “satndard weapon?” Who knew? What is a “standard weapon” anyway?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
