Combustion

Federally Licensed Firearms Dealer and Violence Policy Center shill Josh Sugarmann bleats about how people are buying weapons that look like assault weapons since Barack Obama’s election. He notes the lack of ads for “traditional” hunting rifles, which he traditionally calls sniper rifles but somehow forgot this time. He also notes that this spike will lead to a slump. Probably. We’ll see. Note the obfuscation between NRA and gun dealers.

And, lastly, he says all those people buying are just people who already own guns buying more. And we know that is false. He also glosses over the other, larger growing segment of the gun industry: handguns.

The whole post seems to be a way to push the newest “pro-gun” anti front.

However, there *are* some alternatives. Check out http://www.theliberalgunclub.com and http://www.huntersandshooters.com/ for starters.

200 Years ago “Traditional” hunting rifles were flintlocks. Odd how traditions change.

Not only a fear-monger, and a merchant of ignorance, but a luddite!

  3. David Says:

And the best way to ensure a sales slump is to prohibit people from buying the rifles in the first place. This guy’s pathetic.

I don’t have a semiautomatic centerfire rifle in my personal “arsenal” (or as I like to call it, my incomplete accumulation).

However, I presume my 70+ year old Mosin Nagant bolt action rifles, which came with bayonets, some attached to the gun (eek!) are also assault weapons in this type of categorization.

I assume that my 1917 dated Lee Enfield, which has TWICE the ammunition capacity of the Mosins, are also doubly deadly assault weapons, even though mine has no attached bayonet (would have cost as much as the rifle).

I assume that my Ruger 10/22 in 22LR is an especially evil assault rifle because I own, and could buy more, 25 round magazines for it, which I can shoot in a matter of seconds – well, only at the outdoor range when no range master is around to remind me “Slow Fire Only!”

I assume my Glock with a 15 round magazine is an easily concealable weapon of death, my Beretta 21 is a miniature tool of death, my GP-100 in .357 Magnum is an overpowered killing machine, and my scoped .308 deer rifle is only good for sniping at guards in nuclear power plants, or for climbing to a tower to commit genocidal suicide (I’m in Austin).

My shotguns are either inexpensive single shots (readily converted within minutes, using only a hacksaw, to concealable sawed off guns!) or inexpensive pump shotguns, (same ability to become deadlier sawed off guns), with amazingly large pellet per shot capacity.

My potato cannon, built for use with my then-very-young son, is absolutely under Texas law a perfectly legal non-firearm as it is solely used for “Pyrotechnic displays” usually on New Year’s and the 4th of July.

When they have successfully confiscated all my other deadly, likely sinful, weapons, I’ll still have my potato cannon. And you should beware the man with only one gun….

And I regret not buying a Swedish Mauser when they were cheap, and will in future regret not buying an AK clone and an AR-15 clone when they were cheap, too.

  6. Cemetery's Gun Blob Says:

It’s fun, as much as Josh is a bum, he has single handedly increase my interest in firearms (Brady Bunch comes in 2nd place….)

    Funny how that works out.

  7. Chas Says:

Markie Marxist sez: “Josh generates more heat than light, and his reptilian personality doesn’t exactly win friends and influence people, but he does man the lonely outpost there at the VPC for us, so we Marxists have to be grateful to him. Somewhat. He might even survive the first purge. Maybe.”

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
