BOHICA

Obama’s new AG will be Eric Holder, who is not good on guns. Sebastian doesn’t set the bar very high.

Update and bump: Jay points out the list of gun controls Holder supports:

* First, to require child safety locks for all handguns that are sold.

* Second, to ban violent juveniles from ever having the ability to own guns.

* Third, to pass the president’s handgun licensing proposal, which requires safety certification for all handgun purchasers.

* Fourth, to support research in smart gun technology which can limit a gun’s use to its authorized owner.

And finally, to close the gun show loophole by requiring a background check for all gun purchases at gun shows.

Well…in my state, the State Gov makes sure that every firearm purchaser must be offered a safety-lock by the licensed dealer he buys from. But they are almost always separate from the firearm itself.

Licensing to purchase handguns? Sounds like registration. (What about non-dealer sales?)

  2. ben Says:

Right, and the the gun owner will have to get government permission, fill out a million forms, pay a buttload in fees etc. before being able to transfer the smartgun to another buyer. States like IL,MA,CA etc will have draconian fees, and “may transfer”. Looking forward to that.

Which state, other than Vermont, would be effected by this?

  4. SayUncle Says:

All of them and Vermont. A president’s licensing proposal and safety certification requirement are not the law, federally.

  5. Nate Says:

Sean…come on man! Stop trying to defend this Maginot Lie. Obama and his appointees are anit-gun, just because YOU say it won’t affect any other states besides Vermont (false) it’s still an anti-gun law, even if it applies to NO state. Anti-gun is anti-gun.
Can’t you just be happy that the lies brought the lightbringer a victory, without trying to pawn them off still?

That’s purchase. Excluding places like Massachusetts, there are usually no safety certifications to purchase a handgun (in most places, the seller will provide instruction). Even those that do require a safety certification, this would likely add a second one rather than augment or be part of an existing aspect, adding more costs and time consuming irritation to the matter.

  7. DirtCrashr Says:

Depends on what such nebulous “safety certification” might eventually consist of: a 1,000-round classroom session with proof of all bullets in the X-ring at 20-yards and including proof of watching an AlGore-approved powerpoint presentation showing ND’s and including a “gun violence” therapy session – or what? It’s the Gubb’mint – when do they NOT overreach?

  8. ben Says:

which requires safety certification for all handgun purchasers…

Washington State does not require any safety certification for purchase nor for CCW.

  9. Sean Braisted Says:

My mistake, I thought it said carriers…continue building the bunker.

  10. Jeff Says:

Sean, there are many states besides Vermont that don’t require training for a CCW permit. New Hampshire and Pennsylvania are two that I know of.

  11. Dan Are Says:

If they really wanted to make a difference with research, they could improve non-lethal technology. That could provide better self-defense to those too squemish to use guns. Assuming they don’t leverage that as an excuse for more gun control.

  12. Steve Says:

Funny you say that Dan, many states are regulating items like Tasers just like they do firearms. Hell, in Mass you need a carry license to carry mace!!

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
