Dirty, dirty
Went to the range this weekend with the Para Gun Blog 45. Earlier, I had bought about five boxes of Wolf 45ACP from CheaperThanDirt because it was, well, cheaper than dirt. Wolf ammo has a reputation for being rather dirty. And it was. After firing a bit without using the Crimson Trace Laser grips, I decided to turn the laser on. The dot was gone and it projected a scattered pattern of light. About a month ago using the Wolf ammo, I had the same issue but dismissed it as I thought it may have gotten dirty just because things get dirty. Seems the ammo produces enough dirt to get inside the hole where the laser is. I swabbed it out and switched to another brand of ammo (Winchester White Box) and had no more issues. Thought I’d pass that along.

Same issues here with MagTech ammo. FOS Ammunition is fairly cheap and appears to be clean in my gun.

It’s interesting, a shooting friend of mine runs Black Powder 45acp, will less dirtiness than Wolf or MagTech. And he run’s ’em smokey.

I used Wolf specifically for its crud content in my last pistol class. I figured in my XD could digest 250 rounds of that crap in a few hours, then it would eat most anything.
I still tested a lot of my carry ammo first, but it was a nice additional experiment.

So, you’re saying dirt isn’t so cheap after all? That maybe clean is actually cheaper than dirt?

Wolf sucks. I quit using it years ago, won’t allow it in any of my guns.

Only standard Wolf ammo I’ve used is 7.62×39 and .30 Carbine. Where I really notice the dirty is in the Carbine, much more stuff to clean out of the slide, etc. Read a while back that the reason for getting so much in the action(and I’d guess to the laser)is the steel case doesn’t expand and seal as well as brass, so you get more blow-by.
