God is everywhere and his messengers are in my radio

On occasion, I listen to the local morning talk radio. Sometimes, it’s entertaining and has some quality stuff. Other times, it reminds me my neighbors can be a little preachy. This morning’s topic was Barack I like the Sprite in you Obama’s position on abortion. Full disclosure: it’s an issue that I happen to agree with him on except for that whole part about believing in Roe v. Wade (whatever that means).

Anyhoo, first caller I heard said, and I am not making this up, that Obama was sent to run for president by God to punish us for our government losing its way with respect to using God’s law.

Second caller (we get back to back God Squad call ins today) basically gave another sermon about getting God back in our government and how God founded our government. I shit you not.

Third caller (the God Squad Trifecta!) said something about how people always say abortion is between her and her God but that was bogus because, ya know, God didn’t say it was OK to have an abortion.

Update: After that, I couldn’t listen anymore. It was kinda like an alert went out that they were talking abortion and everyone was told: Quick! To the God phone!

It seem abortion is one debate where both sides use heaping doses of emotion without reference to the facts.

You know, they could take a point or two from the gunnies about using rational arguments instead of heated rhetoric.

Something like, “Roe vs. Wade is logical, if you assume that human life begins at birth and there is a Constitutional right to privacy which doesn’t allow States to write their own birth-control laws. But we think the court was mistaken, and human life begins when there is a unique genetic entity (or brainwave pattern, or heartbeat).”

On the other hand, I don’t want to be given credit for arguments about “common-sense abortion controls” which are analogous to the Brady’s “common-sense gun laws”.

Obama is still an idiot. “Above my pay grade”? Are you kidding me?

  3. chrisb Says:

I enjoyed the “above my pay grade” comment. Uh, Barack, you are interviewing for the most powerful position in the world dumbass.

  4. Nomen Nescio Says:

that whole part about believing in Roe v. Wade (whatever that means).

couldn’t really say, but i’m gonna SWAG that it means he believes it’s a decent, workable compromise that’s better than having no compromise, and/or better than what came before it, and/or better than what’s so far been proposed to replace it. i’m guessing this because it’s a sense in which i too might say i “believe” in Roe.

God states his position on abortion pretty clearly in the Old Testament. If an Israelite dude punched a pregnant woman in the belly and caused a miscarriage, he was liable for a civil fine, not criminal charges. Ergo, abortion is not murder according to God. Q.E.D.

  6. Yu-Ain Gonnano Says:

    Maybe, maybe not.

Punching a pregnant woman and causing a miscarriage may be more equivalent to today’s negligent homicide as the death of the child may not have been the intent of the action.

The intent is never directly addressed so it may be that it is irrelevent or it may be that it was assumed the miscarriage was incidental. Which is it? I’ve no idea. There are a lot better educated O.T. scholars out there than me (whether Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox, or even Jewish) and none of them, to my knowledge, seem to take that interpretation. I realize it’s an appeal to authority, but when you have so many groups who disagree with each other so vociferously about so much in the Bible and they still agree on this one topic, I kinda have to think they may be correct.

Small minds are often coupled with big mouths…… and my personal boogyman-in-the-sky-who-gives-me-detailed-and-conflicting-instructions is not responsible for that coupling. He told me that.

If it isn’t enough life to be considered killed by the mother, it isn’t enough life to be considered killed by another.

  9. Dan Says:

Of course abortion is the direct killing an innocent human life. Simply a human in the early stages of life.

Regardless, that was a pretty weak response by Obama to that question. But gotta love the liberal media responses to saying how nuanced he was, treating McCain’s answer as if it was wrong because it was not as woven with mystical tapestry as Obama’s answer was.

Yo rushing to places where we can sound off on an issue that we have in interest in is basically what pro-gun people do too you realize that
I mean look at news articles or blogs that have comments enabled

God told me, personally, just the other day (I have a red, hot-line God phone in my study– He rarely ever calls, and almost never answers my messages) that socialism is the most fucked up (His words, not mine) system ever developed and that any form of it should be banned. The abortion debate can wait until after that far more important issue is resolved. He also told me in no uncertain terms that anyone of the clergy who espouses any form socialism is not only ignorant of the ways of the world, but full of shit and motivated by deeply veiled hatred as well.

So there you have it– right from God himself (hey, if other people can claim to be getting messages from God, certainly I should be taken with equal seriousness, what with having been created equal and all– or do I have to perform some magic tricks first?).

Besides, more leftists are getting abortions or having smaller families thereby reducing their numbers, while more large families are conservative. Maybe we should just wait this thing out a while longer.

  12. memomachine Says:

    Hmmm.

The main reason they’re coming out now is that Obama has been caught in a big-time lie about a bill he quashed several times as a member of the Illinois legislature. The bill, which he utterly opposed, would provide human rights and medical care to infants that survived an abortion attempt and were *born*.

I.e. out of the womb. No longer dependent on the mother for life. etc etc etc.

I think it was called The Born Alive Act.

Basically CBN, Christian Broadcasting Network, broke the story shortly after the debate at Saddleback and interviewed Obama directly who called the people saying he opposed the bill were “liars”. Then his campaign got into it and started calling everyone liars. Then CBN went through the archives of the Illinois legislature and found documentation that showed that yes indeed Obama obstructed, voted against and help kill this bill. And remember all this bill would do is provide human rights and medical care to infants that survived an abortion attempt. Infants that were, at that time, being set aside in a dirty closet to die without any medical attention.

His biggest problem is that he’s been passing himself off as someone who would support the *federal* bill, when in fact he did his utmost to kill the state version, which were identical.

Now he’s eating crow, having to admit that he lied and trying his best to spin it so he doesn’t lose every single Evangelical or devout Christian.

Frankly whether or not you’re pro-life or pro-choice I hope it isn’t that hard a decision to make that an infant that is born here is a citizen, a human being and deserving of care.

Except Barack Obama precisely does not believe this, and it is causing him huge problems.

  13. memomachine Says:

    Hmmmm.

Seriously this might actually kill his bid to be President and put Hillary back in the saddle. His poll numbers are bad right now, when Kerry in 2004 lead by more than 10+points.

The full explanation is really complex and I’m waiting for FactCheck.org to put something up. They haven’t yet and it’s probably because they’re trying to nail everything down.

I’m not a Christian myself but a lot of my friends are and some are Obama supporters. When I finished the complete explanation some of them looked like it would’ve been kinder to have kicked them between the legs.

“If it isn’t enough life to be considered killed by the mother, it isn’t enough life to be considered killed by another.”

That was pretty much the point of the biological mother of my last foster child.

Thank you for proving once again that the anti-Chirstian people are strikingly similar to the anti-gun people. Nothing says ‘I have a point’ quite like taking a single sentence from a large collection of work and stripping entirely of context!

“Second caller (we get back to back God Squad call ins today) basically gave another sermon about getting God back in our government and how God founded our government. I shit you not.”

So you’re admitting to being completely and totally ignorant of anything remotely resembling knowlege of the traditions and morallity that our nation was founded on?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
