What media bias against guns?

Reuters: Gun Owners “Not Just Urban Criminals and Drug Dealers”

Good to know.

Jay has more.

Tam gets her snark on:

Frankly, I can’t see an “urban criminal” getting excited about finding the right bayonet to go with his Brazilian M1908/34 Mauser or a “drug dealer” painstakingly finding the proper Mark Twain book to serve as a prop in a photo of her newly-acquired 19th Century revolver (unless by “drug dealer” they meant “pharmacist”).

Ahab brings the fisking.

It would have been funny if it wasn’t so pathetically frickin’ ignorant.

    What’s next?

“Computers: Not just for hackers anymore.”

“Not all car collectors are getaway drivers or illegal street racers.”

“Once thought to be the exclusive domain of pornographers and blackmail artists, photography is actually a hobby for ordinary people, too.”

  2. Sebastian Says:

I have a different take on it. It’s really a positive story on gun owners from a major news outlet, and I don’t think we should poo poo the significance. Yes, they will get a lot of things wrong through ignorance, but this is far far better a media climate on guns than it was even a few years ago. We’re making a difference.

  3. DirtCrashr Says:

Reading it, it does appear that they seem actually surprised about this novel discovery of theirs, almost at the level of, “Whoa! Gun owners can read and write, and they use SPOONS too!”
One subtext of the story is that Americans maintain a vibrant interest in our History, while what is reflected in the same story-context is that Yuropeens are so sophisticated and suffused with it they are disdainful and “over” History.
They remind me of the foppish idiots (both male and female) posturing in Vanity Fair clothing ads – fashion victims.

  4. Sebastian Says:

It’s definitely a little condescending, but a lot of people think like that. And for those that do, it’s good to read something like this.

  5. Rustmeister Says:

That’s the way I saw it too, Sebastian.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
