No Knock Raid Update

You’ll recall there was a police officer killed in a no-knock raid. The homeowner is charged with first-degree murder (first degree because he, of course, planned on the raid I suppose). So far, there are reports that weed was found. And the original report mentioned nothing of drugs being found. Yet, the complex growing operation the guy was alleged to have had was not found. And the police are tight-lipped.

But this is troubling. On a police message board regarding the incident, a commenter responds:

OK, I don’t want to jump to conclusions, but I am getting SICK AND TIRED of hearing about Officers getting shot and our fellow Warriors not returning fire! Hello, F-ing cover fire Gents, get the job done! This is really something that pisses me off, we are breeding a bunch of victimsnot warriors! If your fellow Warrior is going to be on point and he/she takes a round or gun fire???? Lay down SUPPRESSIVE FIRE A.S.A.P. so you can get your fellow Officer out of the kill zone!

Warrior? You’re an officer of the peace. Protect and serve ring a bell? Suppressive fire? Good lord, the ninjafication is out of control.

Well, I guess it is a good thing they don’t carry fully automatic weapons that can be used for indiscriminate fire….. oh, wait…

Once again I’m reminded of a really good quote from Battlestar Galactica:

The police protect the People. The military protects the State. When the military becomes the police, the People become the Enemy of the State.

That’s what you’re seeing in that “covering fire” comment. The militarization of the police.

Sounds to me like a bogus raid, and everyone in a panic trying to cover their asses and find a way to hang it on someone.

I know I’m going to get called a fascist, but I don’t have a lot of sympathy. In areas where you have a significant organized crime rate, yes, it’s a war. You may not like the fact that it’s called what it is, but hey, life’s like that. If you don’t want to live in the middle of the war, move to the country. There is zero SWAT team, ninjification, any of that crap here. Cops drive around, stop people who are going 90 on the expressway, then get off work and pull into the driveway of the house just down the road. They’re your neighbors. You go to the range with them, talk to them at football games, and on those rare occasions when there is a criminal in the area, cheer them on.

It’s your choice. Live with the war, or move.

Reports of drugs found after the fact.

I seem to recall similar reports after Atlanta Police invaded an old lady’s home and killed her. I also recall that after enough investigation it turned out that the only drugs in the house came to be there via the cops.

Will there be enough investigation this time? Will the basis for the no-knock warrent be challenged? I have some small hope. Here in IL there is a chance that a State Police officer will be charged with Reckless Homicde after loosing control of his vehicle at high speed. It has taken 2 months to get to this point.
Small comfort to the homeowner sitting in jail.

Bugger off yourself. Two can play this stupid game:

If you don’t like our opposition to the militarization of police, move to some banana republic.

  9. Rivrdog Says:

EVERY time an officer fires his/her weapon (not on a practice range), it may ONLY be done on the basis of seeing the target, identifying the target, and determining that said target poses a DEADLY threat DIRECTLY to persons within the threat’s range. The one exception is humanely destroying a mortally injured animal.

No weapon may be fired except with those rules, which are universal now. The old “fleeing felon doctrine” is gone.

End of story. No “suppressive fire” allowed. Ever.

    Rightwingprof,

It’s precisely those people that live in bad neighborhoods that need to worry about thugs busting down their door and killing them.

Why can’t the police double-check the address before they go barging into someone else’s home. It seems easier than making law-abiding citizens move.

    LAPDedOshea had this to offer:

Godspeed Brother! …….. We out here on LAPD had a bunch of Officers serving a warrant on a 187 suspect and after the knock and notice, he put 7 , 45 caliber rounds from a Glock 21 through the door, and NO ONE in the stack laid down any cover fire!!! WTF??? Those little hand canons you have on your hips and the boom sticks you have while on point are not for show, they are for business, so get the job done! Decide RIGHT NOW weather or not you can take a life and if you can’t I have two words for you, Paper or Plastic! Wow, this shit pisses me off, suspect in custody??????? Congratulations! One shot fired, yeah, by the suspect, are you F-ing kidding me? My fellow Warriors who do not have their minds right, better shit or get off the pot! Unbelievable!

LAPD! Why aint I surprised? And this guy, LAPDedOshea, sounds like he’s been spending way too much time playing Rainbow six and/or Ghost Recon. And we’re supposed to trust clowns like this to protect us?

Is there a difference anymore between a home invasion and a warrent being served? It dos’nt look like it.

  12. Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner Says:

Don’t mean to hijack the comment thread, but has anybody heard any new news about Cory Mayes?

  13. straightarrow Says:

it took a long time for the evidence to be planted, didn’t it?

Isn’t that usually the first thing they invite news photographers in to shoot pictures of, and immediatlely.

    Something doesn’t smell right.

LAPDedOshea is beneath contempt, we can only hope he is separated from law enforcement, no matter how it happens, excluding him shooting a baby or something. He is the kind that would.

    Yes there is.

Take a look at New Hampshire, Wisconsin, and other “country” states. It’s not just in LA and NY that this happens.

  15. rightwingprof Says:

    move to some banana republic

You’re fairly stupid, so I’ll explain. You choose to live in that banana republic. Therefore, you take responsibility for the consequences, and speaking of consequences, those people who live in those neighborhoods could move, or they could do something about the crime. Folks in a little town down the road started a neighborhood watch because people were speeding. That’s called taking responsibility for your lives. Whining about cops, whether it’s whining because they don’t stop the crime, or whining when they do because oh dear the poor little thug got shot and bringing lawsuits, or whining about going after criminals is nothing but irresponsible.

You want to stop the crime? Then get off your lazy ass and do something about it. Otherwise, shut up.

  16. HerrBGone Says:

RWP, are you the same kind of right wing prof. that would take the tools to do something about it out of the hands of law abiding citizens and only allow the Responsible Government Agents^TM (the police) to have them?

As to the militarization of the police (and I totally agree with the Galactica quote, Kevin) when the police become sufficiently militarized the Posse Comitatus Act should kick in and they loose the right to police. The problem here that is that they are not Federal and the collective right model of the 2A would have the state be able to form military units not covered by Posse Comitatus. So what can We the People DO about this?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
