BSL in Tennessee

TN Senator Tommy Kilby (BTW, you look over the age of 8 shouldn’t it be Tom or Thomas?) has proposed a bill to make the possession of pit bulls (as very loosely defined in the bill) unlawful:

It is an offense for any person to knowingly own a pit bull dog in this state.

And this is awesome:

This act shall take effect July 1, 2008, the public welfare requiring it.

We seem to have gotten along without it thus far. You can contact Tommy and let him know that breed specific legislation is pointless at:

Or email him here Sen. Tommy Kilby

The bill would, specifically, ban Politically Incorrect Dog.

Update: The AKC is on it:

It is imperative that Tennessee dog owners contact both their State Senator and State Representative and voice their strong opposition to SB 2738.

To find your Tennessee State Senator, go to the Tennessee General Assembly home page. On the left side of the page, click “Senate”, then click “Members”.

To find your Tennessee State Representative, go to the Tennessee General Assembly home page. On the left side of the page, click “House”, then click “Members”.

Aunt B.:

I don’t know how we ensure this never gets out of committee, but we’ve got to do it. Tell me, folks what can be done and I’ll be at the capitol doing it.

thanks for the info on this — sent my email to Sen. Kilby. The proposal is just another waste of time in the legislature.

I’m also a dog owner in Tennessee. I posted abouth this on my Blog, at http://emeraldgryphon.wordpress.com/2008/01/17/new-tn-senate-bill-proposes-to-ban-pit-bull-terriers/
including a link to the Senate menbers list so you can contact your own senator and ask them to stop this horrible bill.

    Respectfully,
    Pol

Yet more evidence what happens when the Government thinks it is our Nanny. First they want to tell us what kind of guns we’re responsible enough to own, and now they want to decide what kind of pets we’re responsible enough to own. They also want to tell us what temperature we can set our thermostat to.

As for myself, I don’t need no stinking Nanny. All I want the government to do is maintain the roads & keep the illegals out of our country (I’m fine with legal immigrants, it’s the illegals that I worry about). Is that so hard? Get the heck out of my life Mr Nanny, I can brush my teeth by myself!

What does Kilby propose people do with their dogs?

This is incredibly dumb. Another Constitutional retard. These idiots should have to pass a test on the Constitution in order to serve.

Of course that would make most of them ineligible.

I saw this early this morning and e-mailed my local representative (Mr. Dunn). Luckily, the man has a B.S. in animal science. It doesn’t make him a smarty, but at least it’s a start. His reply, just over an hour later, gave me hope that this bill would not pass. He basically recognizes it as a knee-jerk reaction, although his terminology was far better put.

As an American Bulldog owner, I especially took offense to the breed being included. Anyone who knows anything about dogs know American Bulldogs are not pit or any part of pit. And that, for the record, there isn’t even really a breed called pit bulls.

    Retards.

I’m having trouble seeing the downside here. 😉

You know its tiresome, when people are so bored with there own lives they have to go in and try and regulate other peoples lives. It seems the only way they can do that is things like banning animals. I have 3 dogs of my own, 2 apbt and an English Mastiff. I also have a cat, it bites, are they going to ban it? All I have to say for those that hold some part in this type of BS is get a life. All 3 of my dogs are rescues. You wont get them from me

  9. SALINA Says:

    YOUR AN IDIOT
I THINK YOUR AN EVIL MAN FOR WANTING TO BAN ALL PIT BULLS!!!!!! I HONESTLY HOPE THAT THIS LAW DOES NOT PASS BECAUSE YOUR GOING TO BE THE MOST HATED PERSON IN YOUR STATE ADN OTHERS.. HOW COULD YOU LIVE WITH YOURSELF KNOWING YOUR TAKING PEOPLES PETS AWAY FROM THEM. WHEN ITS NOT EVEN THE DOGS FAULT IF THEY HAVE NEVER ATTACKED ANYONE BEFORE. RUDE!!!!!!!!!

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
