Quote of the day

Subgunner Walther1 on the ATF’s recent compliance plan for the Akins Accelerator:

The ATF could use this as the mechanism to insure (sic) who has AA devices and then only allow amnesty registration by those that sent in the springs

Or should I just start digging a hole in the back yard for my poor fucking dog?

“For people who don’t understand the law, ATF’s position is that this device is a “collection of parts” which together comprise a machine gun conversion device. This solution allows the removal and surrender of a key part, the spring, at which point ATF’s position is that the remaining parts no longer constitute a “collection of parts” which comprise a machine gun. This is a reasonable solution to the compliance problem, and was negotiated at significant expense to protect Akins Group Inc. and our customers from enforcement action while helping protect our inventory and our customers’ property.”

Leave out “and our customers” and you have an honest statement. The best interpretation is “We sold you an illegal device and we can cover our behinds if we can convince you to send in the spring and be happy with a $1,000.00 pile of worthless junk”.

actually, they sold them a device that had ATF approval. the ATF then changed its mind.

No question. I have followed all your posts on this. Still, it looks to me like Akins Group is doing a CYA. They have their cusomers’ money, the ATF likely has their customers’ names and addresses and the only ones looking to get hurt are the customers if only that they will be out the money they paid for the device. I would have liked to have seen an ACLU-type statement: “Today the Akins Group has filed a lawsuit on behalf of itself and its customers for a declaratory judgment that BATFE is FOS”.

P.S. I mean how does turning in the spring protect the customers from “enforcement action”? By “voluntary compliance”? I, too, think the ATF (or is it Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, these days) rulings are stupid and unconstitutional but as far as I can see, the people in the best position to challenge them, Akins Group, are caving and the only ones getting screwed are their customers.

i’ve asked. been told legal action is pending but to avoid folks getting their dogs shot, they developed a compliance plan with their lawyers.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
