Congratulations are in order

Pro-Gun Progressive got his concealed carry weapons permit. In Maryland, even. He advises:

If you’re living in a Shall Issue state and you don’t have your permit, shame on you. If you’re living in MD or another restrictive state, apply today and make a political statement. Feel free to ask me for help with the process.

    Thanks Uncle!

How delightful a coincidence that my permit came today, the same day as the MD State Police held a seminar about our ridiculously byzantine and restrictive (read: almost no one qualifies) permitting process.

The long and the short–the police fall back on a case, Snowden vs. Maryland, where the Circuit Court for MD held that it’s the Police Superintendent’s discretion as to what constitutes a “good and substantial reason” to carry a gun. In their opinion, living in the second most violent state in the union, with a county that accounts for 10% of the carjackings in the United States total and where you have a one in two chance of being a victim of a violent crime in your life, living in a state that is second in the nation in armed robbery and third in violent crime total isn’t a good and substantial reason to carry a defensive weapon.

They showed no sign of budging on that point. The only chance we really have for real freedom here is to dump antigun legislators. It’s not often I tell people to vote for Republicans, but we have some pretty mild mannered ones here for the most part and I’m having a hard time wondering how I’m supposed to not vote for our moderately pro-gun Ehrlich over avowed gun grabbers O’Malley and Duncan (the two Democratic challengers).

  2. Standard Mischief Says:

    Sebastian,

On O’Malley and Duncan, which should I vote against? I’m having a hard time voting for (gotta appeal to those fiscally conservative democrats in Rockville) Ehrlich, but I’d feel a bunch better switching over to the Democratic party and voting against the strongest candidates.

I know you’ll say getting a pro-gunner elected takes time, but to the best of my knowledge Ehrlich has failed to even executive order his state troopers to stop following people home from the range in the hopes that they will go through the drive-thru at Burger Fling or make some other illegal stop on the way home.

If it’s not obvious, the people transporting firearms home from the range are not the crime problem. The overlords do this because it’s an easy way to get “guns off the street” (and your guns will do just fine, thank you)

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
