Were we misled into war?

Tom takes it on. And calls me an asshole.

Here at Lean Left, we have some real assholes who comment frequently. SayUncle comments here almost daily.

Sounds to me more like he uses word association rather than call you an asshole explicitly. It’s like saying “There’s some real nuts out there. And oh look, here comes Ravenwood.”

Well, that was his point 😉

Actually, Ravenwood, that’s a great way of putting it. That’s precisely how the administration “linked” Iraq and al-Qaeda and 9/11. Not by coming right out and saying it, but by using word association.

Oooh, the GOP can yank quotes out of context! Amazing! A 1998 case for action was still relevant in 2003, even though the action argued for in 1998 was taken in 1998!

In any case, show me where I’ve ever argued that the administration lied about WMDs, and you’ll have me. My case strictly concerns 9/11 and al-Qaeda links, both of which were either fabricated or greatly embellished.

I will say that the administration certainly embellished the nuclear thread posed by Iraq; that some democrats fell for it is to their discredit. Again, if you can find anywhere that I commend them for supporting the war, you’ll have me. Instead, I’m on the record saying that their support for it was a mistake, probably because they lacked the balls to support it.

Your problem here is that you’re mistaking this for a partisan issue for me, and it’s not. The Democrats who supported the war were wrong and I said so at the time. The Republicans who opposed the war (there were actually six of them in the house) were right. I wouldn’t have magically changed my mind and supported the war if it were a Democrat’s idea.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
