I’m Backsliding Already

Here I’ve been trying to step up the blog output, and I’ve already hit the wall. Things are crazy at work today, so I don’t know how much I’ll get to post today.

In the meantime, here’s an interesting tidbit. SayUncle has blogged a couple of times about Tennessee’s tax stamps for illegal drugs. Well, apparently Oregon has made a million dollars from its medical marijuana program.

You know, it beats me why governments aren’t chomping at the bit to turn drugs into a government monopoly and rake in that sweet, sweet revenue.

Maybe not a government monopoly, but at least a sanctioned, but socially disapproved, and heavily taxed vice a la tobacco.

But that’s mean less money and power for the current drug and law enforcement types, and more money for the bean counters at the state revenue department. The law enforcement types like their big budgets and big departments, so they oppose it.

Now, that’s just cynical, my good man!

What were the original anti-marijuana laws of the 30’s but an employment program for ex-Prohibition cops?

  4. Fûz Says:

One reason, and I believe only one reason, that more States aren’t doing it:

Ashcroft v. Raich won’t let them. I’m surprised that Oregon’s program is still running while we are waiting (too damned long, BTW) for that decision.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
