Assault weapons ban push returning to MD
Howard County Delegate Neil Quinter is introducing legislation today that would ban rapid-fire, military-style assault weapons in Maryland.
I can’t find the bill at their site but I imagine it’s just a ban on weapons that look like rapid-fire, military-style assault weapons, since the ban on rapid-fire, military-style assault weapons has been in effect since 1986.

it sounds like they are banning my trigger finger.
I do have a question for you. Most of the gun folks i read are in agreement that the gun lobby needs to go on the offensive. I would like to run the viabality of one idea past you.
You have mentioned the removed of the Hughes act of 1986. I personally think that will not go over very well because it is easy to demonize full auto machine guns. I have never used an m-4 or m-16 before, but i thought that they had a select fire option. Full auto, three burst fire, and single fire.
What would be the likly hood that we could get bill through that legalized three burst fire, but (brand new) full auto was illeagal.
Is it possible to make rugged useable weapon that is select fire but hard to convert to full auto?

Dunno. I’d like to see a push to repeal it because even if it is unsuccessful, the public would realize it was the real ban on assault weapons.

oh i agree with that, i just think that we this would (might) be an achiveable intermediate step to getting the band repealed sucessfully.

Dammit Dammit Dammit…
Here is the only published text.
Designating specified firearms as assault weapons; prohibiting with specified exceptions a person from transporting an assault weapon into the State or possessing, selling, offering to sell, transferring, purchasing, or receiving an assault weapon; requiring the Handgun Roster Board to compile and maintain a roster of prohibited assault weapons; etc.
Thanks for the TIP. I will be on this like white on rice.
