Church and state
My wife and I attend a Presbyterian church. I’m not particularly Presbyterian but at least they leave out all that gay bashing and drinking is evil nonsense that pollutes some local Baptist churches, which is why I like them. It turns out that the Presbyterian Church USA supports renewal of the Assault Weapons Ban.
I imagine my tithing will cease immediately and I’ll likely be converting. The wife is going to be a bit angry when I explain this one to her.
My soul or my principles? Blah, without principles, you have no soul.

I should think that you will have an exceptionally difficult time finding a church that you can agree with on everything. Might try United Methodist, I guess.
But this illustrates a larger point, as you alluded to in your headline: the church and the state have zero business intermingling. The wall does, and should, work both ways. It always has bothered me when churches engage in politicking of any sort. “Render unto Caesar,” and all that.

I have to ask. Where in the Bible does it say “thou shalt not have a weapon with more than three of the following: a removable magazine, a pistol grip, a flash suppressor, a collapsible stock, or a bayonet lug, or a magazine capacity in excess of 10 rounds.”
Because, really, that’s all the assault weapons ban says. It has nothing to do with fully automatic weapons, which were banned in 1934.

Why do you attend any church at all? You sound like a “cafeteria Christian” who is trying to find a religion that conforms to your standards. This is absolutely against the teachings of the Gospels that say that we should surrender all to God.
You are OK with a church that endorses homosexual relationships (in absolute objection to the will of God) but you will leave the church for a stand on gun control?! Come on!

There are many things the bible states you shouldn’t do. Have you ever lied? Lusted? I’d dare say you have. and those are absolute objections to the will of God. But you are a sinner, you should know that from the gospel. and you are also forgiven. As is homosexuality. Homosexuality is not specifically mentioned as a commandment by the way. Additionally, the bible was written by men who had an agenda. Compare king james to original hebrew if you have doubts.
I also oppose organized religion. However, it makes my wife happy, so i go. Granted, you’re likely new to this blog or you may have known that.
