Guy Denton Savage, 42, of London, was the owner of the now-defunct Sabre Defence Industries, a Nashville-based gun manufacturer and U.S. military supplier that shuttered operations in 2010 after a raid by federal authorities. In January 2011, a federal grand jury in Nashville issued a 21-count indictment charging Savage and four of his Middle Tennessee associates with illegally smuggling guns overseas.

The four Nashville executives quickly reached plea agreements with the government, admitting their roles in the alleged conspiracy and promising prosecutors their ongoing cooperation.

Savage’s response? He sent the federal court a bill for $250 million.

The invoice — the amount of business and personal damages Savage claims to have suffered as a result of the prosecution — is included in hundreds of pages of court filings and letters that Savage has mailed from the United Kingdom to U.S. District Judge Todd J. Campbell, who is presiding over the case.

I actually talked a little bit about self-defense with my kids and my nephews and nieces. Teaching them useful things like fight in public and never go to a second location. And not to scream help in public since that doesn’t get attention but rather to scream things like You’re not my daddy. I don’t know you. Leave me alone.

When I set about car buying and wound up with tactical car, I almost got the model with the manual transmission just because it would be fun to drive. I didn’t because now car companies market manuals as sport packages and up the price a bit. I passed because the dealer didn’t stock them and I’d have had to wait. I kind of regret that now.

I will teach my kids to drive a manual and, likely, my next car will have a manual transmission just to make it fun. I figure when it’s time for me to get a new ride, the used BMW M3s will be reasonably priced.

On one hand, folks point out that it is a bad design because you have to use your trigger finger to release the retention device. Under stress, you could continue contracting your finger and shoot yourself in the leg. On the other, folks point out that you should train with the holster, like anything else.

On the third hand, is me. It’s a combination. A design is just that. The way something works. Having an issue with a design is one thing. Accepting it another. For instance, I happen to not like a gun with a magazine disconnect safety. I think it’s unnecessary and, should you want to de-cock such a firearm, it adds danger where there shouldn’t be. But it’s something that can be worked around. It does’t mean that I blame a magazine disconnect for my negligent discharge. What I did was use it in a manner the design isn’t meant for. I didn’t use it the way it was supposed to be used.

I think the verdict is still out on the Serpa.

I did some low light and night shooting once at Mike’s place. One of the things that struck me was the smoke. If people are shooting enough to generate smoke and it’s dark out, your light and laser become less useful as they refract on the smoke.

Obviously, in a self defense situation, there’s probably not going to be hundreds of rounds going off to generate that sort of smoke. But I found it worth noting.

I demand that we close the Going Wherever You Want Loophole! If we checked everyone for government issued photo ID as they walked out their front door, we could prevent sidewalks from being superhighways for criminals, but the ACLU has vowed to fight any such legislation.

President Barack Obama on Thursday will free 10 states from the strict and sweeping requirements of the No Child Left Behind law, giving leeway to states that promise to improve how they prepare and evaluate students, The Associated Press has learned.

Tennessee is one of them.

The Korea Times is reporting that while it has (sic) will allow 86,000 historical M1 Garand rifles to be imported from South Korea, the Obama administration continues to block the importation of some 600,000 M1 Carbines because “they come with a magazine that can carry multiple rounds.”

You know what else can carry multiple rounds? A Garand clip.

Looks like a bear with a fish to me.

Ciener’s attorney, Greg Eisenmenger of the Viera law firm Eisenmenger, Berry & Peters, P.A., told Brevard Times that the criminal charge was brought against Ciener after a few, but very vocal customers, had complained to law enforcement about not receiving merchandise after payment.

Eisenmenger said that his client was able to provide records to the State Attorney’s office which demonstrated that thousands of orders had been filled and that the lengthy back orders represented less than 1 % of all orders.

Everyone involved should be investigated, even the police who covered it up.

I have a blog about hunting, and like many other bloggers who want to monetize their labors of love, I am a member of the Google Affiliate Network. The network allows us publishers to promote products sold by advertisers and receive a commission on any sales that result from our readers clicking through.

The products I promote range from waders to binoculars to hydration systems to, yes, ammunition — everything you might need to bring home the bacon except the firearms, which generally can’t be sold online.

But Google announced to publishers late last month that the Google Affiliate Network will no longer collect or pay commissions on weapons-related merchandise.

I can hear it already: “Quit yer cryin’. Google has a right to set policies consistent with its values. If you don’t like it, take your business elsewhere.”

That’s fine. I’ll set aside the fact that Google’s tentacles are wrapped around virtually every aspect
of the small, independent Web publisher’s life with products like Blogger, FeedBurner, YouTube, Google Analytics, Gmail, Google Affiliate Network and AdSense (I use and love all of these). And I’ll even throw my support behind Google’s right to align its policies with its values.
The problem is that Google’s policies are a mess.

I know other folks who have had issues with google over this, to the point it resulted in huge reductions in sales after a policy change. And I’ve been told by web-marketing folks that my website here, based on rank and traffic, could generate 5-10 times the ad revenue it currently does if it was about cars, sex toys, food, or some other non shooty hobby.

Justifiable homicide in the city shot up 79 percent in 2011 from the previous year, as citizens in the long-suffering city armed themselves and took matters into their own hands. The local rate of self-defense killings now stands 2,200 percent above the national average.
