Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro’s office and the city must prove why they still need Errol Houston Jr.’s handgun, three years after he last faced a criminal count, a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday. The ruling by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, scrapping its earlier opinion in the case, could lead to a change in how prosecutors and police view their right to hold on to seized evidence in criminal cases that are dropped but still could be prosecuted later. “This is really a hugely important victory,” said Marjorie Esman, executive director of ACLU of Louisiana, which represented Houston. “It absolutely changes how the DA’s office is going to have to treat property they retain that they don’t really have any need to retain.”

“I don’t have faith in the police to protect me. There are so many attacks on women these days. It’s everybody’s right to defend themselves. I think all women who are vulnerable should be carrying guns,” Sidhu said. She is not alone. A growing number of well-off, educated Indian women are turning to firearms for protection.

The Senate Appropriations Committee on Tuesday moved forward with legislation to increase airline passenger security fees, beating back a GOP attempt to keep them at current levels.

The 2013 Homeland Security appropriations bill would increase one-way fees for passengers from $2.50 to $5 in order to close a budget shortfall at the Transportation Security Administration.

Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) said the $315 million in funding would otherwise come from taxpayers and argued it is better to stick passengers who rely on TSA with the bill.

Does it ever occur to any politician to make an agency comply with its budget?

And you need a license per location. As someone who has license or two, they’re getting pointless. The licenses used to act as a check that someone has met certain qualifications in technical field or vocation (accountants, hairdresser, etc.). Now they act as revenue measures and a sort of punishment.

Mine is a toss up between the suppressed 10/22 or the suppressed pistol. I’ve ditched the Walther and am looking for a replacement but it was fun. Those two guns have been used to introduce new shooters many, many times. Fun first guns for kids. And you can shoot them all day without hearing protection and it’ll only cost you a few bucks. And everyone loves the satisfying ‘ping’ when it hits steel.
