ZOMFG! There’s black people in Appalachia?

Posted by SayUncle

An essay on a recurring theme here at SayUncle: Why won’t those dumb, cousin-humping rednecks vote for Obama?

Is it the racism? The elitism. Who knows, really?

Personally, I think the answer is much simpler than all the pixel-waxing done these days over such a question: we don’t like him.

More on McCain

Posted by SayUncle

David is pretty upset over the McCain thing. And David tells us that McCain is not exactly a great ally to gun owners. True. He’s not what I’d call a stellar gun rights supporter. However, he is not openly hostile to gun owners like Hillary and Barack Obama. And the significance of his attendance at the NRA meeting shows that, if nothing else. After all, who is lining up to speak at Brady Campaign events? And who had to go through all the trouble of creating a fake grassroots group that appears pro-gun to endorse Democrats?

McCain is far from perfect. Hell, guns aside, conservatives are not happy:

We should probably consider ourselves lucky, because McCain is giving us a taste of what’s going to happen when he gets to the White House. This, in other words, is what is in store for us conservatives: daily disappointments, frequent betrayals, and constant regret for having voted for him.

Well, that’s what we’ve been getting for the last eight years anyway. So, I don’t exactly understand why I should be that much more pissed about it now.

Meanwhile, Robb notes the Democrats are having similar issues:

Over the past few weeks, I’ve gotten quite an earful on the upcoming elections and it pains me to say even the Democrats don’t appear to be happy with their choices. Many of them are talking about voting McCain since Hillary! and Barrack Whatchootalkinaboutwillis Obama do not represent their views. There’s the typical “If my candidate doesn’t get the nod I’m voting McCain” shtick, but there’s a lot of general unhappiness with both of them overall.

Could be. But conservatives are doing it too. This morning’s local talk radio host asked for a McCain supporter to call. The host stipulated he wanted a real supporter and not just someone who was going to hold their nose and vote; nor did he want someone who was voting against the Democrats. He wanted and honest to God McCain supporter.

For the 35 minutes I listened, one guy called in and he wasn’t convincing. He talked entirely about McCain’s military record and said not one word about his policy positions.

Facts are that our current political system just generates shitty candidates. And we have to deal with that.

And that’s better?

So, lost in all the outrage over being called bitter by Barack Rock to the Planet Rock Don’t Stop Obama, we missed out on the fact he supposedly gave us gun owners props just hours before:

“We need sensible gun laws,” said the Senator. “I just got back from Montana where just about everyone has guns. In that culture, fathers and sons bond over hunting. You can’t take that away from rural America. But the inner city is different, and we should tighten the laws on gun purchases and close the loopholes in gun show sales to unscrupulous buyers. The gun control people and the right to bear arms people are talking past each other about disconnected topics.”

I was unaware that there was an inner city exemption to the right to bear arms. Who knew? And isn’t that kinda, you know, racist?

So tell me Paul, which presidential candidates are lining up to speak at your events?

Oh, that second amendment

Posted by SayUncle

We’re all gun nuts now:

With both contenders for the Democratic presidential nomination evading the gun control issue as if it were sniper fire, you couldn’t blame gun control advocates for feeling bitter. Yet Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence–the pro-gun control counterweight to the National Rifle Association–says Obama and Clinton are “coming fairly close to delivering the message we’d like.” On licensing and registering guns, Helmke says, they are “being realistic” in recognizing “there’s no support for pushing that forward at this stage.” His thoughts on the candidates’ ducking questions on the D.C. gun ban? “They’re politicians, and most politicians on tough calls do not answer.”

The reason Helmke doesn’t feel abandoned on licensing, registration, and the D.C. gun ban is that the Brady Campaign has shelved those goals, in favor of a more modest, incrementalist strategy. Though licensing and registration remain official Brady Campaign policy, Helmke says he hasn’t even talked about them with anyone on staff since he became president in 2006.

And by shelved, he means given up.

Quotes of the Day

Posted by SayUncle

Yeah, I have more than one today and if I don’t post them now then my QOTD stuff gets backed up and it messes up my system. That’s just no good for anyone. So, here goes:

LabRat Stingray, in a must read post on the crazies who are suing to stop science:

I for one support any operation that boils down to “Hey, what happens if we concentrate the power consumption of the eastern seaboard of the US into a space roughly the size of Barack Obama’s integrity?” You just know something cool is gonna happen.

NK in comments to all you who poo-poo the NRA:

If it weren’t for the NRA, I would not know how to shoot. We had ranges and instruction at my high school and college.

Sebastian:

If you think the ATF is bad now, wait until you see Obama’s ATF.

There’s a fat lady doing some falsetto

Posted by SayUncle

Or writing a concession speech.

So, Barack EBITDA Obama won North Carolina. And Hillsy’s victory in Indiana wasn’t so stellar. I mean, her ads celebrating our right to arms were so convincing!

Seems all the pundits are saying Hillary is done for unless there’s a superdelegate coup or a lawsuit that says Michigan and Florida voters count for something. The former would be bad for the Dems for a variety of reasons, including a major blow to the Dems stranglehold on the black vote. The latter would drip with irony so delicious that I’d bottle it up and sell it as a mop sauce for ribs. But, then, Democrats suing in an attempt to override an election wouldn’t surprise anyone.

Will Hillary drop out? I don’t think so. She’ll fight to the end. She’s been planning this for more than a decade. Hell, when McCain is getting sworn in, she’ll still be campaigning.

McCain now has a sizable war chest. And he’s been getting ready to unleash the hounds on the victor of the Democrat primary for a while. So, now the fun begins.

The only trouble I have is I can’t remember if I’ll owe Sean or Tom a beer.

Update: Heh.

Here it comes

Posted by SayUncle

Barack The Outlaw Josey Wales Obama finally decided he’d stop pandering to gun owners since calling them bitter and went ahead and started advocating more gun laws. Actually, you wouldn’t know that from the headline that reads Laws alone can’t stop violence: Obama. But if you read the article, you’ll note he says:

We’ve got to tighten up our gun laws. I’ve said before we should have a much tougher background check system, one that’s much more effective and make sure there aren’t loopholes out there like the gun show loophole. [Or] The Tiahart (sic) Amendment [requiring destruction of gun-purchase records.] Here’s an example of something common-sense: The ATF [federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms] should be able to share info with local communities about where guns are coming from, tracing guns that are used in criminal activity. It’s been blocked consistently in Congress. As president, I’m gong to make sure we know if guns are being sold by unscrupulous gun dealers not abiding by existing laws. We should know about that.

So, he misrepresents the gun show loophole (McCain has too, btw). And he and the Sun Times lie about what the Tiahrt Amendment does.

More on Obama and Joyce

Posted by SayUncle

David notes that the Joyce Foundation had been buying up law reviews for Heller.

This in addition to all the other Joyce Foundation shenanigans.

So, how’d that endorsement from a shill group work out for you?

Posted by SayUncle

So, the fake pro-gun rights group set up by the Democrat Leadership Council to make Democrats look pro-gun (when they could just be pro-gun) The American Hunters and Shooters Association didn’t deliver. Poor Bob Ricker. They spent $500K and all they got was a website. Oh, and McCaskill, who they’ll quickly remind you of and who you probably don’t care about.

Here’s a conversation between Bob Ricker and Barack biggity biggity bop Obama.

Turns out, the people between Philly and Pittsburgh are not so fond of being called cousin-humping, bible-thumping, gun-toting, angry hangers on. Who knew?

And by the gambling industry I mean my bookie. And by my bookie, I don’t mean my bookie but rather a guy I know who is a bookie.

Quote of the day

Posted by SayUncle

Tam:

The reason I loathe the Dem’s candidates is because of their politics, not their genetics.

Who knew?

Posted by SayUncle

Judging from my referral logs this weekend, it seems like the rest of the world was figuring out that Barack More Cowbell Obama used to be on the board of the anti-gun Joyce Foundation. The Politico notes what we gun bloggers have known for years now:

Barack Obama’s presidential campaign has worked to assure uneasy gun owners that he believes the Constitution protects their rights and that he doesn’t want to take away their guns.

But before he became a national political figure, he sat on the board of a Chicago-based foundation that doled out at least nine grants totaling nearly $2.7 million to groups that advocated the opposite positions.

The foundation funded legal scholarship advancing the theory that the Second Amendment does not protect individual gun owners’ rights, as well as two groups that advocated handgun bans. And it paid to support a book called “Every Handgun Is Aimed at You: The Case for Banning Handguns.”

Obama’s eight years on the board of the Joyce Foundation, which paid him more than $70,000 in directors fees, do not in any way conflict with his campaign-trail support for the rights of gun owners, Ben LaBolt, a spokesman for Obama’s presidential campaign, asserted in a statement issued to Politico this week.

LaBolt stressed that the foundation, which has assets of about $935 million, doesn’t take “detailed policy positions,” but rather uses its grants to “fuel a dialogue about how to address public policy issues like reducing gun violence.”

Really? You mean paying millions of dollars to fake grassroots groupsis designed to fuel dialogue? How about we look at one of their flagship groups that got $650,000: Gun Guys. And this group is an utter failure at even generating dialogue.

On the Democrat Debate that I did not watch

Posted by SayUncle

If I understand all the yammering on the blogs, it seems those who vote Democrat are upset over the recent Hillsy v. Barack 867-5309 Obama debate. It seems (and, once again, I did not watch) that the moderators focused on issues such as whether or not Hillary Clinton is a liar because she misspoke about taking sniper fire; and whether or not Barack A-Wop-bop-a-loo-op a-lop-bam-boo Obama really looks down on gun-toting, religious crackers (one blog, and I forgot where, called it Crackerquiddick - heh). You know, unimportant things.

See, they did this instead of focusing on the issues. Which is apparently code for repeat prepared statements about diversity and hope and change and compassion and Free Health Care that we’ve all heard at least 17 times already this week. You know, real debate! At this point, the two differ on their views about as much as two guys on death row have differing opinions about the death penalty.

Who knew?

Apparently, there’s a more sophisticated way to say vote for me, you cousin-humping rednecks.

Race to the White House

Posted by SayUncle

If you weren’t paying attention, then you didn’t notice all the racism. See, we’re not a post racism society*. Part of the reason is that everyone sits around with their racist decoder rings looking for racism. Even when it may or may not be there. But accusations of racism these days are rather like car alarms. You hear both so much that you don’t even pay attention to the noise anymore. A few examples:

If you call Barack Chirac Obama an elitist, you’re a racist! Seriously?

Bill Hobbs did a post reminding Barack Tiberius Obama who is boss was. That boss quite clearly from the link meant the people. Then ZOMFG it’s a slave reference!

And ZOMFG! someone called Barack Gwen Stefani Obama a boy! But, you say I call people boy sometimes and I don’t mean nothing racist by it. I looked at my wife last night and said ‘that boy ain’t right’ and he was a white dude trying to push a rope. Doesn’t matter because Boy, in that context, is a racist remark, period. We don’t have to give you a reason, it just is! Dammit. And this is great:

The GOP clearly intends to yell “n*gger, n*gger” or “b*tch, b*tch” for the entire campaign in a desperate attempt to divert attention away from the complete mess they have made of the country.

Not really since the Dems are doing it for the GOP. I mean, I keep reading lefty blogs that say if you don’t vote for Hillsy, it’s ’cause you’re a misogynist. And if you don’t vote for Barack a2 + b2 = c2 Obama, it’s ’cause you’re a racist.

In other news, years of pandering to identity politics is biting the Dems on the ass.

* Note: there really is real racism but none of this is it.

Fake Gun Rights Group Endorses Gun Controller

Posted by SayUncle

So, from my referral logs last night, I learn that the anti-gun Democratic Leadership Council’s shill group diguised as a pro-gun group American Hunters And Shooters Association has endorsed Barack Machine Wash Warm Obama for President. Gasp! Swoon! Of course they did. That’s what they were created for.

Update: A reminder from Sebastian:

Let’s remember how Obama supports the shooting community again:

  • Advocating that handguns be banned
  • Advocating a comprehensive ban on all semi-automatic firearms
  • Sponsoring legislation that makes it harder to get a license to possess a firearm, which is required under Illinois law.
  • Voting against a measure as US Senator that prevents firearms manufacturers being sued out of existence because their products can be used by criminals.
  • Banning any ammunition that could be used in an “assault weapon” which would include many sporting cartridges.
  • Banning all firearms sale within five miles of a school or park, meaning there would be very few places in the United States where guns could be sold.

Posted by SayUncle

When Barack Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt Obama isn’t reading from the script, he can really pull some boners:

So I said, well ya know, when you’re bitter, you turn to what you can count on. So people, ya know they vote about guns or they take comfort from their faith, and their family, and their community, and they get mad about illegal immigrants who are coming over to this country, or they get frustrated about how things are changing. That’s a natural response.

So, if I understand this correctly, his attempt to correct his first gaffe results in him repeating the gaffe again?

So Much For Pander Bear

As part of Hillsy’s anti-crime plan, buried at the bottom: Other provisions would target identity theft and online child exploitation. Clinton also renewed her call for reinstating the assault weapons ban, which expired in 2004.

The rest of her plan is full of other pipe dreams as well.
