The question isn�t the value of guns or what price is too high between willing participants in a transaction, but rather, what effect do artificial barriers have on price and the economics of trade.

It doesn�t matter that the laws are different in various countries. If profit can be made selling a gun for $100 in one venue and that is the cheapest price, that gun is worth $100 dollars. Every unit of price above that is the cost of governmental suppression of free economic activity.

This ain�t rocket surgery.

As I posted over at my site, there’s a problem in his premise for the data. He’s trying to show who pays too much for guns. The problem is that thanks to cultures, laws and markets, there’s no such thing as too much. I also tried to leave a comment, but he doesn’t appear to be accepting it at this point.

Not to mention, even within the U.S., the laws make a big difference in the price. My Sig cost far more than most other people’s because it’s Massachusetts compliant. However, is the value any higher? No. In fact, most people probably wouldn’t value it as much as a non-Mass. compliant Sig.

And I wasn’t even nitpicking about black markets, either. That’s a completely different criticism.
