I hope the Joyce Foundation kept their receipt because they might need a refund

It’s amusing. From Joe, I learn that Gun Guy Gonzo linked to me stating we gun bloggers are full of venom and vitriol, cursing and overcompensating masculinity, and instead of providing insight on the news, they provide rehashes of decades-old NRA lies and propaganda. This is particularly amusing when you’re in the know that this guy (who also is affiliated with Buzzflash) is a hack bought and paid for by the Joyce Foundation, who also funds Mayors Against Guns (that group Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam is a member of). It’s called projection, Mr. Karlin and Associates, when you accuse me of having your traits and characteristics. He’s also some comedian/voice actor you’ve never heard of. More background here. But that’s not the best part, this is:

It’s no secret that the gun guys seem to have a much larger voice on the Internet than those against gun violence– maybe there’s something about posting angry blogs from their parents’ basement that just appeals to them more, but when you go looking for intelligent commentary about gun laws on the ‘net, mostly you’ll just find idiotic rants about how the Second Amendment grants everyone the right to own an AK-47, and how it doesn’t matter if children die, as long as we can all shoot up wrecked cars with military grade weapons on the weekend. When it comes to reasonable insights about firearms and gun laws on the Internet, there isn’t really much out there except for us here at Gun Guys.

Well, that’s because no one is buying what you’re selling. People don’t like liars and propagandists. And, as evidenced from my site stats, no one is reading you. And here’s the other thing: I’m not paid by anyone. I’m not a member of the NRA. And I get no talking points dictated to me. At all. I do it because I like to. And I do it to entertain me. And I don’t do it from my parents’ basement, I do it from either my own basement (which is in my 3,800 square foot house) or my executive suite.

What scares these guys most is that in the last 20 years, there have been tremendous gains in the right to arms. Sure they passed the ban on weapons that look like assault weapons but it sunset and good riddance. 48 states now allow concealed carry permits of some kind. Also, the justice department for the first time in 4 decades views the second amendment as an individual right, as does the Congress and both major party platforms. The DC circuit supports an individual right, as does the fifth circuit. States are passing castle doctrine laws so fast, my head is spinning. And they’ve expanded self-defense laws. The Democrats won’t touch gun control with a ten foot pole. And anti-gunners like Romney and Giuliani are recanting their old positions. We, the real gun guys, are winning. And that scares them. Bad.

So, here’s the SayUncle challenge: For every unique visitor I get from The Gun Guys between yesterday and tonight at midnight, I will buy one box of ammo. So far, in the roughly 16 hours the link has been there, that’s a whopping total of four boxes. If it weren’t for Joe, I’d have never noticed you.

Update: We are now up to 6 (count them 6) boxes.

Personally I come for the hyper masculinity so lacking in my own life, but that’s just me … 🙂

  2. Robb Allen Says:

Crap, I just bought 800 rounds yesterday. Had I known about this, I’d have bought and extra 200.

    For no real reason.

  3. SayUncle Says:

Oh Rick, you know that as a gun-owning, truck-driving redneck, I must have a small pee pee.

  4. Kevin Baker Says:

    Damn. I never get noticed….

  5. Tam Says:

Don’t feel bad Kevin; I obviously didn’t fit their premise, either. 😉

  7. Mugwug Says:

Oh well then, as long as he doesn’t make any sweeping generalizations.

I can’t even name one gunblogger I read that lives in their parents basement and shoots up wrecked cars on the weekend. Is this even based on surfing the net or a casual viewing of “Three Kings”?

  8. Rustmeister Says:

He’s trying to drum up traffic by picking a fight.

  9. Greg Morris Says:

Yeah, clearly its just a ploy to get traffic. I certainly don’t blog from my parent’s basement, but sometime I blog while sitting on the deck by my pool. I’ve never shot up an old car either… although I’ve shot: tin cans, paper targets and clay targets. I don’t think many of my blogs have been angry either, except ones about 1st and 4th Amendment violations.

I’ve only seen their site once anyway… I have far too many pro-gun blogs to read every day to waste my time going there. Of course, I read all the blogs because of A) occasional gun pr0n and B) to keep up-to-date on all the latest news about my rights (not just 2A).

After reading his article, however, I did notice that the biggest distinction between most gun bloggers and this leftard is that we support our ideas with facts, statistics, and reasonable arguments. These bozos rely on the fallacy “guns cause violence” as their _only_ supporting premise.

What’s even more amusing, if you want to see a great collection of well-thought-out, clear and precise arguments, read through the comments of the Brady Campaign Blog. There are about two BCers commenting, and a million Pro-rights folks.

  10. David Codrea Says:

Rustmeister has it exactly right. I never link back to the guy myself because he’s obviously an ineffectual attention whore. Although I did get a kick out of it when he came after our old GunTruths site and gave us “a despicable 5 out of 5 bullets” rating…too bad no one else noticed.

Let the antis waste their resources in impotent and indignant solitude.

  11. Thirdpower Says:

I don’t live in my parents basement. I own my home. But I do shoot up old cars. My FIL is a packrat so I make it a point to make the junk he collects no longer “useful” by putting many holes in it. I also have a Master in History, am employed, and bath regularly. So much for their stereotypes.

  12. countertop Says:

Well, I don’t blog from my parents basement but have been known to blog from their living room and swimming pool. Of course, I do my best to ensure they visit me at my home in gun friendly McLean, Virginia (24th highest household income in the nation – though sadly I do more than my share to keep it at more reasonable levels ) since I despise returning to New Jersey.

I also, on occasion, blog from my home in the North Georgia Mountains or my Condo on Hutchinson Island, Florida (just north of Jupiter Island Florida)

  15. Billy Beck Says:

“…and how it doesn’t matter if children die,…”

I’d like to see him substantiate that with a cite: go find someone — anyone — who’s actually said that.

Why do these people have to lie like that?

  16. Thirdpower Says:

Because it’s all they have left. The facts and evidence don’t support them so namecalling, denial, and demonization are their only fallbacks.

  17. Robb Allen Says:

You know, I was thinking about printing up some targets with all of the anti’s arguments on them.

But who wants a target that’s already full of holes?

  18. BobG Says:

“We, the real gun guys, are winning. And that scares them. Bad.”

True, but always remember that someone who is scared can be dangerous because they are desperate. We must always be vigilant.

  19. Robb Allen Says:

“We, the real gun guys, are winning. And that scares them. Bad.”

Sometimes, listening to the media and reading the news, you wouldn’t think that is happening. However, even amongst the lefties here at work, most of them seem to be either ambivalent or pro 2A.

That’s why I don’t automatically write off Dems as anti-gun. Hell, the R’s got Rudy, for Pete’s sake.

  20. Greg Morris Says:

Robb… har har har 😉 They would never be as good as your Sarah Brady ones.

I agree about not writing off Dems… I come from WV, where everyone is a registered Democrat, and everyone also owns guns… The Democratic party just loves *cough* shooting itself in the foot with this issue… just like the Republicans love angering people with non-issues like gay marriage.

The thing is, the anti-rights crowd loves to make it seem like a partisan issue, which garners some support from the left, but ultimately screws their party as a whole. The Bill of Rights is not, has never been, and God willing, never will be a partisan issue.

  21. Sebastian Says:

Anyone who would write off the dems would do well to remember that Sarah Brady is also a Republican 🙂

  22. triticale Says:

“…and how it doesn’t matter if children die,…”

The bucket guys seem to care, so he must be talking about the swimming pool guys…

So are Michael Bloomberg and Paul Helmke!

    (God I crack myself up)

Anyway, I don’t have a gun, nor a truck, but I did like “The Three Kings” (even though it was a bit of a remake of Kelly’s Heroes)
