Uncle agrees with the left

Well, I do a lot. But, on the carrying guns in national parks bill, there’s this:

And LASTLY, and probably what jumped out at me the most, is the plea to call Frist and get this “rushed” through the now lame-duck Republican Congress. THIS is how the Republicans are spending their time and energy?

Indeed. The lame ass err duck Congress is trying to get its pro-gun on so in two years they can point out how pro-gun they were when running for office. But why this bill? I don’t really care about it. Most gun owners probably care little about it. Let’s get on something good, like repealing the sporting purposes language or the Hughes Amendment?

And to the NRA: You will be viewed by the press and the left as the extreme gun lobby who causes the .gov to bend to their will no matter what you do. Just look at the coverage you’ve gotten over this rather innocuous bill. You’re gonna be attacked for any pro-gun bill so you may as well push some good ones.

I’m actually glad that they are moving on this. I live in CO. and have broken the law plenty of times by just having a gun in the car and trying to get from point A to point B and having to go through a park. I also have friends that work in Yellowstone over the summer and they have to leave me their guns to babysit (not that I mind). They have also told me that crime in Yellowstone in vastly under reported.

Yeah, not being able to carry in a national park is silly. Lots of big things that want to eat you there.

Michael Bane has a lot on the subject.

I have to agree and disagree. I’d be happier with what you mention, but if this bill will pass easily, the National Park ban affects me. I agree with you about the civil disobedience issue, but it would be nice not to have to worry about the feds coming after you if you get caught. I drive through Valley Forge quite often, and sometimes walk in the area. I would visit National Parks more often without the ban, so I’m eagar to see it go.

  4. Chris Byrne Says:

Yep, me too. I live in Arizona, and the Nat. Park ban is a big deal.

I camp/hike in National Parks every year, and this affects me directly. I’m not terribly worried about bears (outside of Yellowstone/Grand Teton, that is) but the parks attract alot of people and some are less than honorable.

You can legally transport/store a firearm in your vehicle according to FOPA guidelines in National Parks, but that doesn’t help if you encounter a two- or four-legged predator.

This is important. The Mt. Vernon Parkway, south of Washington, D.C. is all part of the NPS. It is also a heavily travelled commuter route, and according to Park Police, a high crime area. Of course, law does allow for transport between locations, but I personally would rather not have to fear the harassment factor. I’m also sure that this condition isn’t particular to this on piece of Park Service property. Think about Gettysburg.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
