God bless Texas

New Texas law will allow handgun owners to carry weapons in church

To be clear, your church could always authorize you to carry. Now the presumption is that if they don’t post prohibition signs (30.06, 30.07) then you can carry there.

People have long had the misconception that Texas was a gun friendly state, but it wasn’t and is only now catching up with the rest of us. The same confusing wording that they had with carrying in churches is still there for amusement parks and hospitals. It wasn’t until the mid-aughts that Texans could carry their gun in their vehicle without fear of prosecution (technically we could when “travelling” but Harris County [Houston] DAs consistently said no one ever “travelled” through their jurisdiction). And it wasn’t until the mid-90s that a civilian could carry legally at all. Until concealed carry licensing became law (with this stupid church/amusement park/hospital cut out), only an LEO could carry in public. Everyone else had to put it in a box in the trunk and only if going to or from the range.

But even today the stupidity continues. Yes, Texas passed open carry (for whatever that’s worth) last year, but only for concealed license holders. Before it passed there was a lot of talk of making a person who is open carrying to also carry some kind of badge or emblem that indicated they were a license holder. (No really, I’m not kidding.)

tl;dr Texas is not the gun friendly state that most believe.

It has been legal since 1997 to carry in a church. They have to post a “30.06” sign to prohibit it, like any private business. Too many people were poorly instructed by their “instructors” and the media in general and believed carry in a church was “illegal”. BTW, “Gun owners of America” wanted us to refuse the carry bill until “constitutional carry” was adopted. It still hasn’t been. All this while tho, Larry Pratt has had his Virginia carry license.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
