  1. Lyle Says:

Yes well, automobiles have improved immensely since 1911, whereas pistols have improved only a little.

  2. The Freeholder Says:

Given he has to carry something that’s approved by Big Army, his other choice is a Berretta in 9mm. I think he made the right choice.

  3. Wolfman Says:

Patton carried an 1873. If the day is won or lost hinging on what sidearm the general is using, I think there’s probably a lot of other things going wrong on site.

  4. mikee Says:

He probably wears old fashioned boxer shorts, too, instead of those new-fangled “briefs” worn by sporty youths. And in private, he may even wear suspenders.

  5. Paul Says:

So he carries a 1911… fine with me! It’s one heck of a Model T! He could carry a S&W Registered Magnum!

For some reason people here think if you don’t have a 17 shooter you should just throw up your hands and surrender. Geeze folks.

  6. Huck Says:

The M1911 is a rugged dependable handgun, always has been. Why wouldn’t any Soldier of any rank not want a rugged dependable sidearm?

  7. deadcenter Says:

doesn’t look that old school, beavertail safety and possibly a magwell, and i don’t see a lanyard loop

  8. Jerry Gibbs Says:

Hmmm, cocked and locked, beavertail, magwell, (sniff, sniff)could be RACEGUN?!?! Smells like STI?!?!

  9. deadcenter Says:

no ambi safety, probably not STI

    RACEGUN Denied!

  10. Paul Says:

You guys do know 3 star Gen. Matthew Ridgway, in WW2, carried a Springfield 03 rifle. Yes a 5 shot bolt action.

Did I mention he was a paratrooper? Or that he lead from in front? And he was in firefights with the Germans using that rifle?

    Skill is number one.

  11. nk Says:

I think that was Gen. James “Jumpin’ Jim” Gavin, Paul. He is also reputed to have had a relationship with Marlene Dietrich.

General officers used to be issued Colts in .380, similar to, if not exactly like, the Mustang. I bought one once, traded it in as soon as I could for a Beretta.

  12. Paul Says:

Well no, I just read “Ridgway’s Paratroopers”. When Ridgway was in Sicily, his M1 Carbine jammed and jammed. So he went to the old ’03. Gavin carried a M1 Garand.

In fact on Guadalcanal I think Col. Edson packed a .357 Magnum.

But you are right, General officers can do as they please!

  13. nk Says:

You’re right. Gavin did carry a Garand, not an ’03.

  14. JTC Says:

Didn’t Patton also carry a Rem 51 .380 appendix style?

Love those old things, the new version not so much.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
