Police in West Virginia say a man was trying to abduct a child at a mall when the mother stopped him by pulling out a gun.
News outlets report 54-year-old Mohamed Fathy Hussein Zayan of Alexandria, Egypt, was arraigned Monday night in Cabell County Magistrate Court on a felony charge of attempted abduction.
Well done.
Update: The woman lied about the whole thing. Not very helpful.

Hopefully it wasn’t a “gun free” mall which would subject this mother to criminal prosecution for exercising her basic human right of armed self defense of herself and her child. That seems to be the predominant preference of officialdom.

The mother did NOT “lie”!
“She misjudged suspect’s actions … overreacted to uninvited touching of daughter … misinterpreted intentions of male suspect … realized it might have been a CULTURAL MISUNDERSTANDING [EMPHASIS – ExpatNJ] … suspect might have just been patting her daughter on the head and smiling.” [abridged]
I’ll bet that guy already has a criminal record. But, the mother did not want to be viewed as, or ostracized for being, “anti-immigrant”; that’s why she changed her story. Politically-correct nonsense in the USA.
The mall won’t file charges; it would be bad publicity; but, I bet they post very prominent “no-guns” signs.
Let’s review:
Unknown older male, touching MY daughter, UNINVITED??? That is Assault and Battery, in my book and in ANY court of law. HELL YES I would err on the side of caution; and, I would NOT apologize for it. And, that mother should never have apologized, either.
