I don’t think this is traditional open carrying. I think his shirt rode up while he was crouched down, exposing his 6 o’clock holster.
But it does seem like if you live in the kind of neighborhood where someone is likely to rob you while you’re working on your car, then 1) you should be carrying and 2) you should pay attention more.

Question is, if “some one” can get behind you and grab your gat without you being aware of them and grabbing it first, WTF are you OC toting said gat for?
Deterrence you say? How’s that workin’ out for ya? Not that everyone is as dumb as this dumbass, but OC in almost all situations and scenarios, is stupid. IMO.

What an idiot. Lucky he isn’t dead (the OC carrier.) In Arizona one guy got his gun snatched at a stop-n-shop and he ran after the thief. The thief turned and killed him with his own gun (and thus became a thief and a murderer.)
And yes, keep aware of your surroundings.

I always carry concealed, but I’ve started carrying cross draw so that my pistol is to the side-front of my left hip and is not accessible from the rear even if inadvertently exposed. It’s also more easily accessible to me when I’m seated in a vehicle if a perp approaches the driver side window or attempts a carjack. Just reach down and across and the pistol is already pointed in the direction of the window. It’s very difficult to pull a holstered pistol seated in a vehicle especially with a seatbelt.

Apparently the thief was caught from a tip.
The guy followed him and got shot at for his trouble, but not hit.
Good reason to carry a BUG, since you are dealing with someone threatening you with deadly force, and people have been shot in these disarm situations. Ayoob recommends it, and has documented occasions where the BUG has saved people during disarms.

Hey Ron W…. so have I! Same reasons. In winter I just have a sleeveless vest zipped up 1/4 the way. Works very very well. I the Summer I use IWB Appendix position for a J .38 when I wear shorts.
Gun won’t get snatched (or even seen) wearing such gear.

Crime can, and does, happen everywhere. It ain’t about the location, for if it can’t happen where you live (because presumably there’s a magic, anti-crime forcefield around your town), then you truly don’t need to carry.
On the other hand, if you’re carrying it’s because you understand that crime happens, so…

@Lyle, you’re correct, as usual. Now they go to the “good neighborhoods” where they can get “the good stuff” and perp brazen home invasions so as to force the victims to quickly give them what they want and maybe leave no witnesses. Good to keep your weapons at the ready–even when you think you won’t need’em.
