OK, so “private” interests (but if it’s a “non profit” can it possibly be “private”, being as that implies government support in the form of tax exemptions?) can spend a lot of money for essentially nothing but a cool stunt too.

They claim that the spacecraft is named “in the beginning” because that is the first words of the Bible. Israel is not a Christian country. It is Jewish. That would mean that the Torah is the source of the spacecraft’s name.
