Some have used our October 2017 statement to claim that NRA supports ATFs final rule, but as NRA-ILAs Executive Director Chris Cox noted only days after our statement was issued, We dont believe that bans have ever worked on anything.
We also made this clear in our comments to ATF on the proposed rule earlier this year. In our comments, we further advised that ATF should at a minimum make an amnesty period available to deal with the fundamental inequity imposed on law-abiding gun owners who purchased their bump fire stocks in good faith reliance on prior ATF determinations. We continue to pursue the availability of a period of amnesty with the administration.

They may not have supported it but they certainly were not strident in their disapproval. I personally think their mealy mouthed weasel worded statement certainly gave Trump the impression there would not be blowback from the NRA if he banned them and their actions and statements (or lack thereof) has supported that impression.

It was the NRA’s idea to not only ban these, but to ban them via ATF fiat.

See what they did there? They’ve re-written the second amendment to say;
“…shall not be infringed UNLESS proposed infringements are thought by some to “work”, OR unless there is an amnesty period.”
The point being; they’ve abandoned the second amendment with that language, and have adopted the Progressive authoritarian position that restrictions to the RKBA are legal so long as they “work”, and even if they don’t “work” restrictions are tolerable so long as there’s an amnesty period.
That is precisely how you chum the waters to encourage in the sharks;
Give the schoolyard bully half your lunch money and he’ll be back tomorrow for more, ad infinitum. This is called “negotiation” or “diplomacy” or “pragmatism” and of course all the “smart” people love it. Most of all though, the bullies love it because it keeps them in business.
Actually the bullies and the diplomats both love it equally, because neither would have a way of life without it.
Therefore what both the bullies and the diplomats fear more than anything is the thought of someone putting the bullies out of business for sure, for certain, and for good.

I won’t be renewing my membership in the NRA (I just sent a check to GOA) and I won’t be voting for Trump in 2020 and probably won’t vote for any other POS Republican either. I don’t care if the whole thing burns down. At least then we can clear the chaff from the wheat and get things back to where they should be. There is no voting our way out of this crap.

Right Lyle! “Shall not be infringed” is a reiteration that the fedgov has NO delegated powers for gun control laws pertaining to the People, but only “for governing such part of (the militia) which is EMPLOYED in its service. (Article I, Section 8.16). And without enumerated delegated powers, (10th Amendment) the fedgov may lawfully do NOTHING!

What those clowns at the NRA have just demonstrated is that they are of the same class as politicians, in that they haven’t caught on to the fact that the internet is forever. Current lies cannot cover up prior statements.
Can the NRA’s board (70+ members! what a joke!) remove these idiots? I’m thinking it may be time for me to do a Bush Sr, and cancel my Life Membership. They are fast becoming irrelevant in the pro-2nd area, and moving well into damaging territory.

At this point I would be happy to see the NRA move from a decade of actively harmful behavior at both the state and federal level and go back it marksmanship training and range construction assistance.
From fighting open carry in FL and TX to working against local groups in GA just in the last few years to now pushing for “red flag” laws to restrict civil rights with no due process, the NRA is hurting us more than they are helping anymore.
