Local stuff

The NRA has endorsed Marsha Blackburn.

Her democrat opponent, Phil Bredesen, has a decent record on guns. However, it’s about judges. I trusted Bredesen as a governor but don’t as a senator.

Phil Bredesen “decent on guns”, compared to who or what???!!

Perhaps he wouldn’t be the author of a bill to ban ALL semi-auto guns with a mandatory buyback (confiscation) under penalty of a 10 yr felony, but we don’t know that he wouldn’t vote with fascist Democrats on whatever they want. I saw in the old stories where Gov Bredesen repeatedly VIOLATED his oath to the State Constitution (Article I, Section 26) on our DECLARED right to keep and bear arms for our defense. So he was NOT “decent on guns”.

He was decent on guns right up until he had 2 years left as governor. Then he vetoed all the pro gun bills knowing full well that the veto would be overridden6.

At least gun bills got to his desk, unlike with Haslam.

  4. Ron W Says:

@rickn8or, good point! Haslam is no better than Bredesen and Harwell and key committee assignment. Also back during the Bredesen Administration, there were a few pro gun Democrats who actively promoted pro gun bills.

But on that, I think Bredesen “went along to get along” which is likely what he would do with leftist Democrsts in the Senate.

He was ok as long as Democrats held the House and kept bills he didn’t want off his desk. When Republicans took the House, suddenly, he vetoed the Carry in Parks and Restaurant Carry bills he had promised he’d sign “if they ever got to his desk.”

I trust him to vote in lockstep with the other Democrats in Congress.

Yep! And they would happily pass legislation that would criminalize gunowners who have legally possessed semi-autos, so that “families would be separated” and “doors kicked in at 3 AM”.

Democrat? Anti-gun and anti-2nd Amendment. There are no more Dems who support the 2nd at the national level.

We had a similar situation, in Virginia, years ago, when Mark Warner was Governor. He had run on a pretty moderate Democrat platform, and promised that gun rights would not be targeted. True to his word, he did not push for any new gun control laws and signed on to several pro gun bills/laws. But when he became a Senator as many higher up state elected officials are likely to jump to Federal office, he toed the Democrat line. Failure to do so would mean loss of DNC and party backing.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
