The Trumpening

CNN:

President Donald Trump told a gathering of state governors on Monday that “we have to have action” in the wake of the latest US mass shooting and urged governors not to be “afraid” of challenging the National Rifle Association.

I think he needs to think before speaking.

I am neither shocked nor surprised.

  2. Fred Says:

A handful of bills will get killed in sub committee on Wednesday here in TN. Same subcommittee where Speaker Harlot, er, Harwell has them killed every year. Um, she is a republican and the committee is 7 to 2 republicans to dems. The Republicans are not your friend. Nothing to see here. Give the NRA some more money or something and vote for republicans some more. Pfft.

Mr. President’s position on everything is the position of the last person he spoke with.

  4. mikee Says:

One can challenge the NRA and end up with suggested legislation a lot better than what the Dems are offering, for example, NRA sponsored legislation.
Don’t pay attention to what he says, watch what he does. Nothing matters except the end result.

  5. Richard Says:

He is difficult to figure out in terms of what he is actually doing. Is he throwing dirt in the air to sow confusion and ensure that nothing happens or is he just undisciplined or does he actually support such law. Or all of the above. I honestly don’t know.

  6. nk Says:

He got even worse today. It’s all over the news. He told the Democrats to go ahead with comprehensive gun control.

Personally, I never expected anything else from the orange-skinned pansy. His support of RKBA is phonier than his hair. Fully in line with New York values: “Guns are for people who can make $100,000 contributions to the NYPD and New York politicians.”

  7. Jonathan Says:

Wait, the lifelong New York City Democrat supports “gun control”?

    I’m shocked.

    Truly.

  8. JTC Says:

So, like somebody said before, is he playing 4D chess or is this for real? I mean I’ve seen him plying his art of distraction as he has gone about the business of some real accomplishments…letting them run and yanking their chain.

But this seems different. Say it ain’t so, Don. Please.

  9. Jim W Says:

On one hand it’s scary what Trump is saying, on the other hand, Schemer seemed pretty celebratory after Trump’s statements on immigration and that didn’t work out so great for the Dems in the end.

I’m going to proceed on the theory that Trump is feigning vulnerability to bait them into running on gun control this year. Dems are afraid because of all the other times they got their dicks caught in the mouse trap of gun control, so you have to make them think they are about to win big before you slam it shut on them again.

  10. Jim W Says:

Ask yourself… what tone deaf issues would you most want the Democrats to run on in 2018?

Gun control and illegal immigration seem like great choices if you can get the Democrats to play along. These are issues that will energize the dem base, driving up margins in NYC and SF, but it will drive rural blue dog/union dems into the arms of the republicans.

I think he needs to think before speaking.

    Why should he start now?

  12. Ron W Says:

Why no mass shootings at the White House, Congress, the Supreme Court, the Dept of Justice, Homeland Security, the Federal Reserve, the Academy Awards, the Super Bowl, ad infinitum?? Oh that’s right! They have hired guns to provide armed protection. NO unarmed victims awaiting the tender mercies of the next deranged, criminal, murderer who was allowed to “slip through the cracks” of CURRENT gun and background check laws!

So, protect the children and LEAVE US ALONE according to your oath of office. Otherwise disarm your security or downgrade to revolvers and lever action rifles or whatever you got conspired to impose upon us!

  13. Will Says:

Bottom line, if he actually follows through on all this gun control, he will be replicating Bush Sr’s legacy. A One Term Wonder. (as in WTF was he thinking?)

I’m reasonably sure he is not that foolish.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
