True enough

Editorial: Thoughts and prayers wont stop these mass shootings

I don’t think thoughts and prayers work that way. Of course, what’s also true is that your calls for gun control won’t stop mass shootings either.

Calling for “gun control” is in essence praying to the Earthly “god” of government (your higher power), asking it to solve our problems, thus insinuating the real God out of the equasion (that “Creator”, who, as stated in the Declaration of Independence for example, “endowed” us “with certain unalienable rights…”).

That concept of rights as being beyond the reach of the authority of Mankind (unalienable) has pissed off a lot of sick people.

Asking government (Man) to take over as a substitute god (oh, how many wish to fill THAT role!) is one road to certain destruction.

  2. Huck Says:

“Asking government (Man) to take over as a substitute god (oh, how many wish to fill THAT role!) is one road to certain destruction.”

That’s what the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) attempted to do and look where they are now. And there’s plenty of turds here in the USA who’d love to fill the substitute God role, most with a (D) after their name.

  3. Ron W Says:

    Lyle and Huck, both, well-said!

And history demonstrates, guns in the hands of governments, a “monopoly of violence”, have killed vastly more than guns in the hands of the People. It’s evil when one takes from another what they keep for themselves.

“…what’s also true is that your calls for gun control won’t stop mass shootings either.”

Agreed, but of course the latter has nothing to do with the former does it?

But “I don’t think thoughts and prayers work that way…”

Disagreed, that is exactly and exclusively how those things work.

  5. Jay Eimer Says:

God gave us the right to self-defense and the RESPONSIBILITY to take care of ourselves. Then those who would be our man-god deemed us (as a class) IRRESPONSIBLE and thus by fiat removed most of our useful tools.

So schools (run mostly by leftists) ban guns (or get leftist pols to do it for them) in schools. And every teacher wants to do anything they can to protect their students (witness three staff killed while shielding/herding kids to safety) but are denied the tools to do more – even if they are gun-friendly or even already KNOW HOW!

OTOH, nanny-state says .gov protect us – and the FBI fails to investigate a viable tip that might have stopped this before it started.

Oh, and newsies? FBI might be “overworked” right now – all I’m seeing on the news today is multiple cases, in multiple cities of police being asked to investigate new threats to schools. Can any one say “copy-cat”? STOP MAKING THEM FAMOUS!

  6. Ron W Says:

    @Jay Elmer,
Well-said and then they accuse those of us who support the basic human right of armed self defense as having “blood on our hands”.

It’s their well-established lying modus operandi:

“Accuse the victim of what you do.” –Karl Marx

“Accuse your opponent of what only you are doing, as you are doing it, to create confusion, cloud the issue, and inoculate voters against any evidence of your guilt.” –Saul Alinsky

The goal: Keep the children unprotected, unarmed victims as an emotional pretext to disarm all of us.

ONLY YOUR ENEMY WANTS YOU DISARMED

  7. Richard Says:

What does work is armed defenders at the point of contact. But of course the schools will never do that, because leftists.

And I mean teachers and staff. Cops try hard but there are not enough of them and they are not there fast enough. You are your own first responder.

  8. Jay Dee Says:

The whole whole gun free zone idea has to be the most vacuous idea ever foisted upon an ill educated public. One might even argue that it is intended to kill people until they surrender even more rights. We have banks and liquor stores with better security than our schools. It’s time for some common sense gun control and ditch this progressive fantasy.

  9. Ron W Says:

@Jay Dee, you’re correct, especially in your second sentence!. The 1990 Gun Free Schools law needs to be REPEALED. I haven’t heard any politicians, celebs or media giving up their armed security. Why not? Why aren’t they going “gun free” in support of the school shooting victims?

Speaking of celebs, a while back, George Clooney moved from the gun free, multi-cultural paradise of England because it was “too dangerous” and then hired ex secret service armed security for his LA estate. Hey! I bet those guys have guns. These hypocrites are pro-gun for themselves and anti-gun for us and our kids!!

  10. Ron W Says:

Here’s the story on anti-gun (for the rest of us) Clooney:

Typical of these elitists, they want to propagandize to take from us what they have and keep for themselves–despicably evil!

  11. mikee Says:

When the school kids meet Trump and demand a ban on AR-15s, I hope somebody from the NRA is there to explain that (1) Collective punishment of the innocent for another individual’s crimes is itself a crime against humanity; (2) Banning a tool or class of tools won’t stop a single madman from executing innocent people, whereas such a ban stops many, many innocent people from exercising their right to self defense; and (3) There exists an inherent, individual and inalienable right to self defense (and defense of others), that the 2nd Amendment protects THAT right. As an extra, the spokesman could note publicly that the NRA is in the civil rights business, and anyone’s claims otherwise are BS.

  12. Sigivald Says:

“Thoughts and prayers” is an expression of sympathy, never even pretending “it can stop things”.

That memes and editorials act like they’re meant to stop things is, well, at this point I can only call it deliberately misleading.

  13. JTC Says:

Sorry Mikee, one of their coached and scripted student protestors has already individually and pre-emptively CALLED BULLSHIT on all of your points. And hey, she got a teevee spot and a phone call of support from this pig:
