Internet gun sales

NRA lets us know that the GAO was told by anti-gun congress critters to study how easy it was to buy a gun online while being a prohibited person. Turns out, not that often:

In yet another embarrassment for the gun control lobby, a government investigation of online gun sales designed to determine whether private sellers would knowingly sell a firearm to an individual prohibited from possessing one determined that no, actually, they would not. In 72 attempts undertaken over 2 years, undercover agents trying to buy guns through readily-accessible Internet sites failed exactly 100% of the time to complete a sale when the seller had reason to believe the buyer was prohibited or lived in another state.

And from the actual report:

Tests performed on the Surface Web demonstrated that private sellers GAO contacted on gun forums and other classified ads were unwilling to sell a firearm to an individual who appeared to be prohibited from possessing a firearm. Of the 72 attempts agents made to purchase firearms on the Surface Web, 56 sellers refused to complete a transaction: 29 sellers stated they would not ship a firearm and 27 refused after the disclosure of the undercover identities stated prohibited status. Furthermore, in 5 of these 72 attempts, the accounts GAO set up were frozen by the websites, which prevented the agents from using the forums and attempting to make a purchase.

1 The GAO was put up to this by specific request of . Representative Elijah Cummings (D-MD),and Senators Brian Schatz (D-HI) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).
    (D) hmmm demoncrap. I think I see a trend here.

2 Anyone heard of this on the Lame Stream Media….anywhere? Oh Hell No.

3 Plan to use this to rub in the faces of the anti-gunner control turds when they roll out more gun control ideas and smear gun owners.

So a load of effort, time, money, personnel was assigned by GOA to disproving a lie told by antigun people, who will ignore the proof against their lie and will continue to lie about guns.

Better use of time would be to lobby for pro-gun rights laws, sue against antigun laws, and evangalize on pro-gun rights to everyone who will listen, instead of pandering to the time-wasting requests of anti-gun liars.

Sure, chew gum and walk at the same time. Hopefully this activity didn’t detract more than 0.001% from any actually pro-gun activity by GOA.

    Mikee,

The study was done by the GAO, Government Accounting Office, not Gun Owners of America.

I’m more amazed that they actually (in another piece I read on it) managed to get what Might Be An NFA Uzi shipped to them.

(Might be, because the report said they hadn’t investigated if it was actually functional, but the picture sure had a three-position selector and what looked like an SBR barrel/stock combination, just like a real collapsible-stock Uzi.

I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if it turned out to be a non-functional DEWAT or a high-grade non-firing replica, myself.)

  8. SPQR Says:

There are actually a lot of dewat movie prop UZI out there. I think the IDF unloaded a ton on Hollywood in the 80’s.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
