Beretta 1301 Tactical Revisited. This has my interest because I’ve been thinking about getting one. Everyone seems to be out of stock.

Beretta seems to have it going on. I like my 390. A lot. It’s simple, it wasn’t expensive, it eats everything from target loads to OMG magnums without manual adjustments or o-rings, and it happens to fit me really well (though the drop-at-comb is adjustable). The carrier return spring stays in the buttstock, AR style.

I do hope they kept most of the 390’s action design in the 1301. The 390 has a very simple, all steel pressure dump valve at the front of the gas chamber. What doesn’t everybody do that?

I guess it’s “tactical” if you say it is, or of it’s just black, and not very long. My 390 is not very long, but it’s called a “Golden Mallard” or some such. That’d make it “tactical” if your tactics are about catching migratory birds.

I’d mount the optic on the barrel, ’cause that’s what I do, which, among other things, would not require the elevated iron sight axis.

At least they’re trying. And at least someone is getting an inkling of the utility of a low-mounted optic.

Some day the reflex sight makers will list a specification for the “optical sight height range” or “lowest useable sight axis” (over a Pictatinny rail, for example) or some such, allowing the prospective user to determine in advance whether the sight can be made to co witness on a given platform, or to result in a certain drop-at-comb.

I would always prefer to support a local FFL, having been one for lo those many years, but things like this are part of why I’m not anymore.

Anything that can be bought and sold by the boatload can be sold for about what the same thing costs “wholesale” to the dealer who gets his product via UPS. Wally taught me that lesson long ago, and Amazon perfected it. Gotta find a product/service niche that can’t be provided in volume in order to survive, and that’s a tough order (heh) for production shootin’ irons and most other retail goods.

Add the Trump Slump to the market and the independent gun store, especially the opportunist-come-latelys, have a tough go ahead. People say they hate Walmart and rue day shopping went cyber, but you’ll find them in line at the former and doing their Christmas shopping on the latter if they can save a buck or a trip. Follow the money. Always.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
