If you thought the Sandy Hook conspiracy theories were too much, just wait

Things that I have, and I shit you not, heard people theorize resulted in the Vegas shooting:

It’s similar a bit in Enemies Foreign and Domestic. Been a while since I read that but OK.

He’s a member of ISIS. I highly doubt it.

And on the various talk radio shows I managed to listen to today:

He wasn’t the shooter. There were other guys in the room doing the shooting. After all, he can’t shoot all 13 to 20 guns at the same time. And he was murdered by those other guys.

He’s terminally ill and Soros paid him money to do this. For gun control. Or so democrats can win. Or something.

He was blackmailed into it. By someone. Not sure who.

I’m sure there will be more.

Is it just me, or does it take longer and longer to walk back, disprove, restate, correct all the initial stuff that is gotten wrong on calamitous incidents of public interest, from mass shootings to aid delivery in Puerto Rico, than it used to take?

Are people more mendacious now for political ends, or just dumber than I remember only a few short years ago?

  2. Huck Says:

    Not only that…

“CBS fires vice president who said Vegas victims didn’t deserve sympathy because country music fans ‘often are Republican’.

    Yup, the tolerant loving left.

  3. Ratus Says:

In the absence of information, people will find patterns in the random background noise.

  4. Nomen Nescio Says:

the theory where the divorce he was apparently in the middle of went sour on him and he snapped because of that was at least halfway credible. totally unevidenced, but not utterly ridiculous.

  5. Miguel Says:

Last one just heard on the news, he had gambling problems and decided to check out this way

  6. Paul Koning Says:

Mikee, I think your first answer is the right one. Think of it as the natural consequence of the “permanent campaign” invented by Slick Willie, and perfected by Obama.

“He wasn’t the shooter. There were other guys in the room doing the shooting. After all, he can’t shoot all 13 to 20 guns at the same time. And he was murdered by those other guys.”

That’s my second theory. That he was the first victim, murdered for his room to be used as a shooting stand.

My first theory is that he went batsh!t crazy and decided to check out like that German pilot who crashed a plane into a mountain did.

  8. Divemedic Says:

Of course, an even wackier conspiracy theory that would make an unbelievable book is a story where the US Attorney General and the President collude to have gun dealers sell weapons to individuals known to be straw buyers for drug cartels, so that they could use the ensuing crime wave to get stricter gun laws. They are caught, the USAG retires to become the Mayor of Chicago, is found to be in contempt of Congress, and the President uses executive privilege to shield himself and get reelected.

  9. wizardpc Says:

His divorce was 27 years ago, so doubt it was that.

His father was a diagnosed psychopath. My money is on that.

  10. Richard Says:

We know essentially nothing at this point. We may never know nothing given the PC nature of the police in leftist enclaves like LV. But lets see what develops.

  11. Ron W Says:

I’m wondering how a 64 yr old guy moved all those reported long guns, 10-12, or various numbers they have reported, tripods, scopes, ammo into a 32nd story room with no one noticing? Not to mention his luggage God a 4 day stay. Is there surveillance from the hallway? I guess he stayed busy for those 4 days. Some help would’ve been nice, but it seems they’ve already decided he acted alone. What’s taking Mueller so long?

  12. Ron W Says:

Correction: “for a 4 day stay”

  13. Crawler Says:

Considering the subhuman murdering coward’s main squeeze was/is an Indonesian, at this point my money would bet he is a recently converted subhuman bloodthirsty jihadist.

Of course, whenever these cowardly murderous acts occur, I have always adhere to the “48 Hour Rule” because one can never, ever believe what media is reporting “on the scene”.

  14. Ron W Says:

@Crawler, yes, and now FoxNews is reporting 23 guns in the hotel room. Yeah, sure, this old guy carried 23 guns and other equipment to the 32nd floor…all by himself…to shoot….all by himself.

  15. Kristophr Says:

It is starting to look like a SWAT fail.

PD was ready to bust the door at 19 minutes in. SWAT shows and procedure-screws-up entry to 72 minutes.

    Transcripts here:
    http://voxday.blogspot.com/2017/10/72-minutes.html

  16. Gerry Says:

This all happened pretty darn close to Area 51.
    Think about it!

  17. Jay Dee Says:

Well, while we’re floating conspiracy theories, how about this, Paddock kept gold bullion in his personal effects. This was a robbery. The robber(s) shot & killed Paddock then emptied his rifles into the crowd. While everyone is looking for the shooter, the robbers simply walk out of the hotel toting several million in gold bars.

  18. KM Says:

“Yeah, sure, this old guy carried 23 guns and other equipment to the 32nd floor…all by himself…to shoot….all by himself.”
Why is that hard to believe? Large, multi-gun cases have wheels.
When shooting competions in the Vegas area, I manage to lug all my gear & luggage – including long guns – through the casino to the elevators.
Takes me about 4 or 5 trips and I’m only staying 2 nights max.
The number of guns has no meaning…the guy was fucking nuts and had a buttload of money to buy toys.
I’m only a couple years younger than the suspect…

  19. Phelps Says:

Are people more mendacious now for political ends, or just dumber than I remember only a few short years ago?

    Both.

  20. Drake Says:

I was surprised that a rifle 400 to 500 yards away was audible over a concert. Some conspiracy types are latching onto this to claim more shooters at shorter ranges.

I think the acoustics of elevated shots, the hotel walls, and supersonic rounds might explain why they were so load at that distance.

I’m also guessing most of the wounded and some of the deaths are do to falls trampling and spalls, not direct hits.

  21. Kristophr Says:

I’ll retract the SWAT fail accusation. Later reports are claiming he offed himself at the 20 minute mark, one minute after the PD was at the door.

SWAT simply handled the clean-up 50 minutes later.

  22. Richard Says:

Conspiracy theories have always been with us. The Bible has them. They seem to fill some deep human need. That said it certainly hasn’t helped that the authorities have undermined their own credibility by calling obvious terrorism “not terrorism”.

  23. Ron W Says:

@Richard, yeah, we know nothing happens by two or more people clandestinely purposing, planning and carrying out some act; definition of conspiracy. It’s always the “lone nut”, especially in mass murder shootings, caused of course, by “guns falling into the wrong hands”. And the remedy, gun control, something to be purposed, planned and executed by politicians.

  24. Ron W Says:

“It’s an incredible level of premeditation that you don’t ordinarily see, and it is difficult to believe that a single person could have done this without detection.” –U.S. Congressman, Trey Gowdy

C’mon, Trey. They’ve already decided that the perp “acted alone”. Your investigative committees should learn how to come to quick conclusions.

  25. MrSatyre Says:

@ Ron W: I stay in Vegas way more than I like for trade shows, and all by myself I lug up several times 23 guns’ worth of boxes and crates to my room. Ever hear of a luggage cart? You can load obscene amounts onto just one.

  26. MrSatyre Says:

@ Ron W: ““It’s an incredible level of premeditation that you don’t ordinarily see, and it is difficult to believe that a single person could have done this without detection.” –U.S. Congressman, Trey Gowdy

Hilarious. In 20+ years of lugging stuff to my room in many large crates and boxes, no one has ever stopped me to ask “What’s in the box?”

  27. Ron W Says:

@MrSatyre, quite possible the way you put it, especially if it was done over a few days. Maybe the Democrats in Congress will propose TSA style searches for hotels just in case “guns have fallen into the wrong hands” or boxes or crates. That won’t violate anyone’s rights since it’s private property.

  28. Ron W Says:

@MrSatyre, I heard a bellhop call into Michael Savage Show who claimed he worked at the Las Vegas hotel where the murdering perp was. He said they routinely help transport large bags, crates, etc up to rooms and are not allowed to question or search what is in them. So the perp could’ve had unwitting help. Savage actually brought up the idea of TSA style screening for hotels.

  29. rickn8or Says:

Let’s see if TSA can do for the hotel industry what they’ve done for the airlines.

    Oh. And Fuck Savage.

  30. rickn8or Says:

Hilarious. In 20+ years of lugging stuff to my room in many large crates and boxes, no one has ever stopped me to ask “What’s in the box?”

Brad Pitt has pretty much discouraged the use of that question.

  31. Nomen Nescio Says:

why would we want the TSA to do for the hotel industry what they’ve done for the airlines? hotels don’t need to be annoying, or thieving, or slow, or intrusive on people’s privacy, or pointlessly humiliating to the general public, any more than they already are, especially if it’s going to come at zero benefit to security and great cost to the taxpayers. fuck the TSA.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
