I’ve kind of hit “peak fuck it” politically

We have a former reality TV host for president. A guy who raps over Metallica licks might soon be a senator. And the next Knoxville mayor may be a former professional wrestler.

Donald Trump says absurd things. And does absurd things. But those things are not as absurd was the media reaction to them. The press is full on hysterical about this guy. Their behavior is irrational and, seemingly, seems to actually help Trump in the polls.

One group of idiots protested another group of idiots. Then both decided to try to out-idiot eachother. One was slightly more successful. One group incited violence and they got it.

The “news” is just a joke. It’s so blatant that their distaste for Trump is influencing the reporting.

You read facebook and every third post is fake news. And I don’t mean like Trump’s labeling things fake news. I mean people posting all sorts of bizarre cures, supplements, click baity headlines that are not true. It’s absurd that people who I thought were otherwise reasonable believe some of the nonsense they post.

And I care about it all less and less each day.

I often wish that I could borrow Doc Emmett J. Brown’s Delorean and travel back to a more sane time in U.S. history. Which would be damn near anytime prior to the 1960s.

  2. Sigivald Says:

“My tire went flat because Mercury is in retrograde. Also, if you don’t agree with me about contentious topics, YOU’RE A SCIENCE DENIER!”

    Jesus wept.

  3. Publius Says:

    SMOD 2020?

  4. Heath J Says:

    Preach it man.

  5. LKP Says:

    “Peak f**k it”
    Heh!

You know, why wait? SMOD 2018!!!

  6. Adam Lawson Says:

I kind of feel like, anyone to the right of Marx is going to be called a nazi lately, so I don’t even want to waste the energy saying “No, those nazis are assholes.”

One, that ought to be self evident. Two, saying it doesn’t protect me from being accused of all manner of evil because I don’t believe in an SJW/Antifa Utopia.

It’s easier to just ignore it all.

  7. rickn8or Says:

Sigvald, Trump made your tire go flat because that’s just the kind of asshole he is. If you don’t believe me, then you’re a racist homophobe!

The subject at hand could be baseball on Mars, but the third comment is some twisted-logic attack on Trump and by extension, the original poster. Then it degenerates into some third grade playground “I know you are, but what am I” exchange.

    Soo tired of it…

  8. Kevin P Says:

Even if you don’t care, the Social Justice Warriors care about you.

  9. Educated Savage Says:

Anyone who makes the establishment and the media (I know) foam at the mouth like that can’t be all bad.

  10. Mike W. Says:

Yeah, peak fuck it is accurate. It’s all noise, manipulation and outrage over things that, in the grand scheme of life really just do not matter.

And people are just so damn nasty to each other over things that are so insignificant and that makes me sad, but also apathetic about it all.

  11. Ron W Says:

“Even if you don’t care, the Social Justice Warriors care about you.”

Right you are, Kevin P. And that not in a caring way…

  12. mikee Says:

Try avoiding all news sources for two weeks, then dip a toe back in the sewer and watch a few minutes of cable “news” channels. Any channels. You will be amazed at how clearly, irrefutably irrational all the reporting and commentary is if you don’t wallow in it constantly.

  13. rickn8or Says:

mikee, is it just me or have all the news readers become more dramatic and made their hand gestures more emphatic?

  14. mikee Says:

I remember Chet Huntley, who made David Brinkley exciting, and Walter Cronkite seem totally insane. Now THERE was a guy who knew how to sit behind a desk, have a smoke, and read news aloud.

I have a very hard time watching TV news because the information content is so very small, and shallow, compared to the emotions and opinions.

  15. mikee Says:

Here is Huntleys unusually humorous and report on the Beatle’s first trip to the US:

  16. nk Says:

If only Trump had said: “As a President from the Party of Abraham Lincoln, I am gratified that the Democrats are finally purging the monuments to their racist, slave-owning, Confederate past.” Then watch Leftist heads explode.

Not that I blame him for not thinking of it. It took me a week to come up with it, and I’m ten years less senile than him.

  17. JTC Says:

nk, not a matter of him not thinking of it but rejecting it as the lying revisionist bullshit that it is, and Lincoln for the lying, murderous First Rino that he was.

  18. Billll Says:

Well we voted for change and you can’t say we’re not getting it, in the Mencken sense of “good and hard”. For sure the inmates are in charge of the asylum, the leadership of the “party of youth” averages about 80 and is working on a kinder, gentler coup d’etat, and the Repubs have been in the minority for so long they don’t know what to do with themselves.

Interesting times, in the sense of the Chinese curse.

  19. Adam Lawson Says:

mikee: No kidding on the irrational. We canned cable, but picked up Sling, so all I get is CNN (well, and Bloomberg I think, but…), and sometimes I watch in the morning just for… the… I don’t even know. Chris Cuomo really seems like he’s on the verge of a stroke every single morning.

  20. Ron W Says:

@nk, well, slave-owning goes back to the founders like Washington and Jefferson. And I suppose Jackson and Grant need to go from the $20 and $50 bills. Yes, Union Gen Ulysses S. Grant was a slave owner until AFTER the Civil War. Lincoln’s 1863 Emancipation Proclamation was an admitted war tactic. Even his views bring the purging of his memorial into question. The 13th and 14th Amendment ended legal slavery after the war. Yet if you read the 1857 SCOTUS Dred Scott decision, the vestiges of slavery are still supported by politicians who condemn the Confederacy.

  21. JTC Says:

    Ron W and nk,

Judge Napolitano said this about that in discussing Teddy and Woody.

  22. JTC Says:

    Damn, forgot the link:

  23. Ron W Says:

JTC, Thanks for sending that!!! Excellent history lesson from the Judge.

  24. MJM Says:

In theological terms, we are seeing the “The Fall” play out in every realm of life. In pop-cultural terms, there is nothing funny about The Idiocracy, and it pervades everything from politics to people’s pick for the top TV show. I bet we are not yet at Peak F*** It.Somehow, it’s going to get more bizarre and dangerous.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
