No sheephitters

A lawyer friend on the intertubes likes to point out that, once you’re in the courtroom, it’s all about selling your side of the story to the judge and jury. You don’t want to make it harder for your attorney to sell that story.

Well, this police officer took heat from the press for his AR dust cover that said “you’re fucked”. And his trial is ongoing. I’m guessing he may regret that.

I have a crazy idea

Let’s make stealing guns illegal. How’s that?

The party of smaller government

Six Republicans Who Voted for Obamacare Repeal in 2015 Sank the ‘Clean Repeal’ Bill Today. So, my senator, Alexander, is basically a liar.

Wonder how that would go?

Apply for a DC gun permit.

Stick to the issues

Yeah, I’m not sure what the NRA is up to with this Carry Guard training stuff either. That and Carry Guard doesn’t seem like a very good deal since it pays out on acquittal. So, if you lose, you go to jail and get nada.

Protection rackets

That seems what a lot of state licensing is about. I say this as someone who has several licenses. I was glad to see these two items:

A civil rights victory by the Second Amendment Foundation

DC appeals court rules that the “good reason” rule for CCW was not OK and issued an injunction against enforcement of the requirement:

At the Second Amendments core lies the right of responsible citizens to carry firearms for personal self-defense beyond the home, subject to longstanding restrictionsThe Districts good-reason law is necessarily a total ban on exercises of that constitutional right for most D.C. residents. Thats enough to sink this law under (the 2008 U.S. Supreme Courts Heller ruling).

News you can use

On counterfeit gun parts

Smart guns aren’t that smart

And can apparently be hacked with magnets:

“If you buy one of these weapons thinking itll be safer, it should be,” Plore says. “In this case, it was so easily defeated, in so many ways, that it really failed to live up to its side of that bargain…Misplaced trust is worse than no trust at all.”

Akins Accelerator 2

Long time readers may remember the Akins Accelerator. If you don’t, the TLDR version is that it was a bumpfire stock for the Ruger 10/22 (the first I’d seen) except it had a spring to do the bumping. A sample was sent to ATF, who couldn’t get the thing to work, for approval. ATF initially approved the device. Then, they actually saw one of them working and ruled that it was a machine gun. All the people who shelled out $1,200 for it now had to remove the evil spring to comply with ATF’s ruling.

Somehow it escaped my notice that there is now a springless version called the Akins Accelerator 2. Here’s a video of it in action:

Looks to be a simple bumpfire type stock now. Banning that evil spring helped.

Civil Asset Forfeiture

I concur. It’s pretty much theft. And I’m saddened to see the party of smaller government saying it will increase use of the practice.

And also heh.

Good news, bad news

My state senator, Doug Overbey, is leaving office. He has a history of killing off pro gun bills in committee. The bad news is he will be the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee:

State Sen. Doug Overbey, R-Maryville, was nominated Friday by President Donald Trump to serve as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee.

Overbey was one of six U.S. attorney nominations announced today by the president. Hes the third Republican state senator who now seems likely to be leaving the legislature next year.

But will he do the Fandango?

Anthony Scaramucci, Trump’s new communications guy, is anti-gun. And he’s trying to delete his twitter history.

Though I could do without all the operator stuff, I’m curious enough to want to handle one.
