Mistaking ammo for blanks

Last year, a woman was killed during a training demonstration by the police. Turns out the reason for this was that the officer involved mistook wadcutter ammunition for blanks.

The question, “How dumb do you have to be?” comes to mind.

Here, actually, is a case of “Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law” and “Conspiracy to Deprive Rights” leading to a death. If people generally were raised from childhood around guns, and around gun owners, community shooting matches and all the rest, just as the second amendment intends, you wouldn’t have to teach an aspiring cop the differences between a wadcutter, a round nose, and a blank cartridge. Most everyone would already know those things by the time they reach their double digit years.

Now that it’s been edited out of “education”, and it’s considered “specialized knowledge” by some, it’s more rare in certain circles, and people die because of that willfully engineered ignorance.

Geez; what if you handed a cop a Nagant revolver with those recessed bullet cartridges?

So why was he pointing a firearm at her?

  3. Tim Says:

‘Zactly, Major. I can’t imagine any context (including a Hollywood movie), in which I would point a functional handgun at anyone & pull the trigger.

To think a cop would be comfortable doing so, is telling.

Rules? We don’t need no stinkin’ rules!

This here’s just a scenario, not real life. Or death.

  5. Ravenwood Says:

I would think the ammo comes in some sort of box with some sort of markings on it distinguishing the two.

…and never the two shall meet.

  7. Deaf Smith Says:

What in the HELL are they using a REAL GUN for????

So they cheep out and use a real one and, duh, someone gets, you know, shot dead.

They deserve not only super sized lawsuits but the actors need to be changed with NEGLIGENT HOMICIDE. And I don’t care if they are cops or not.

  8. Scott Connors Says:

We might remember that blanks can also kill if fired fairly close up, as any vet who remembers the dixie cup demonstration with a blank firing adapter from basic training. At least one Hollywood actor was killed with blank ammunition.

  9. Ron Says:

While not rocket science, reality based training/force on force training is serious business.

As demonstrated all too often (as the case in this story), RTB can and does kill when strict safety rituals are not followed to the letter.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
