Justice department to go after legal weed

While the law is an ass, I would think the government had better shit to do than this:

The White House said Thursday it expects law enforcement agents to enforce federal marijuana laws when they come into conflict with states where recreational use of the drug is permitted.

“I do believe you will see greater enforcement of it,” White House press secretary Sean Spicer said regarding federal drug laws, which still list marijuana as an illegal substance.

That’s a reversal from the Obama administration’s stance, which laid out in an official memo that the federal government wouldn’t interfere in states where nonmedical use of marijuana is allowed.

Marijuana is still banned at the federal level. And the feds still enforce law. I guess this could be the path to seeing it repealed at the federal level.

State drug laws should supercede Federal laws because the Federal government has NO delegated powers for drugs. The 10th Amendment clearly gives States the power over that matter.

  2. Huck Says:

“And the feds still enforce law”

Unless it’s the FedGuv that’s breaking the law.

  3. Jonathan Says:

That’s just the thing – it was never legal weed.

That the feds haven’t been enforcing their own laws is one problem.

That the “war” on (some) drugs still exists is a larger problem.

Well, that’s an optimistic take, that this is a path to changing fed law. Better would be taking the fed out of states’ business…which has been Trump’s general stance, and he definitely has other potus priorities.

But for Sessions, pot has been his life; it’s the one high profile appointment that seriously disappoints me and has me worried.

Then again The Donald is not known for allowing his delegates to call the shots and the consummate businessman no doubt is aware of the positive impact abandoning the boondoggle drug war would have on his signature initiative of stopping illegal immigration.

We’ll just have to wait and see if Sessions’ dedication to enforcing law can supercede his personal drive to make it as it relates to his pet project, and save DT the trouble of sending his beady-eyed little self back to ‘bammy.

I know that most of you know someone or are someone who likes a little weed from time to time and it’s not a big deal, so you think legal weed isn’t a big deal. But since weed has been legal in this state, property crimes are up, violent crimes are up, and mental health crises are up. I used to be for legalizing drugs as a way to end the abuses of the war on drugs. Now I’m against legalizing drugs, even weed, based on experience.

    What Grendel said.

The Feds ability to enforce the law is absolutely constitutional. Besides the commerce clause there are two very illegal things going on in legal states. The lessor is it’s a violation of international treaties we have to legalize marijuana. Not advocating for treaties but I’m willing to bet this same group of people thought Obama’s agreement with Iran was wrong because it wasn’t a treaty. But the thing that surprises me is why the fed hasn’t already gone after these distribution centers. These businesses aren’t allowed to open bank accounts because their in the business of selling illegal drugs. They also can’t take check or credit cards. This is a pure cash business. They also can’t file income taxes as an illegal business. Could you imagine the OSHA violations and EPA violations that they would rack up? Anyway the point is they aren’t paying taxes on millions of dollars that they owe. I’ll go so far as to bet they don’t even charge them with anything other than tax evasion.

Grendal, what state are you referring to and how much has the, crime gone up?

  8. JTC Says:

    @ grendel,

I’ll just go ahead and call a big ol’ Bullshit!

    Prove me wrong.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
